Robot Chicken

I don't know how many CAA members watch it but I would admit I have had some good laughs watching it.
This last Sunday Night early Monday Morning they did a Salior Moon skit.
They use action figures to do the show using stop action filming. Well the skit which is something I won't go into on here but for some people would be considered embarrassing to do in front of someone if you are a male.
They also did a G.I. Joe Cobra skit where Cobra is run like a big business corp and a few others. The show is only 15 minutes long on the Cartoon Network.

The show is funny at times, but I stopped watching it because I found some of the humor used to be just plain sick. Particularily when it makes light of human suffering or tragic events. (Such as the recent Abu Ghraib(sp?) incident.) How is poking fun at a real incident of human torture supposed to be funny?

I will admit to having laughs...and I watch this show...but as of late I have noticed that RC has been getting the MA rating...(I have my tv set to turn off when that happens) and it really did turn off...so I knew it wasn't a joke..

That SM skit was a bit too far imo..it really wasn't that funny...I just am not a fan of SM so I did laugh that they were makin fun of it...but...that was just sick...

If this continues...RC.. might be on my NV (No viewing) list.. :banned:

It's a valid question, but comedy has made light of human suffering for a long time before this...

I could take or leave the show, personally. At times it's humorous but tends to rely on the sex jokes a little too much.

I am a little curious about Adult Swim's thinking in some of the recent TV-MA ratings. I've only seen part of an MA-rated Robot Chicken; it didn't seem too bad but I can't speak for the entire episode. I did, however, watch the "Pipe Camp" episode of Tom Goes to the Mayor, which was rated TV-MA. It was a bit excessive for that show, but any content issues could have been covered by a TV-14. Family Guy has gotten away with worse under its TV-14 rating.

It really shows the inconsistency in the TV ratings system. Since networks are responsible for rating their own shows, they can intentionally give shows a higher or lower rating than a show probably deserves. And considering Adult Swim's effort to reach the 18-34 demographic, I kind of think that's the case here.

While we're on the topic of TV ratings (I know I'm getting off topic here)... There were rumors a couple weeks back that an ep of Samurai Champloo was going to have a TV-MA, but it was eventually dropped back to a TV-14. I wonder if part of that was due to the low viewership on Saturdays. TV-MA tends to really be either a Nielsen maker or breaker; for every South Park or Nip/Tuck that gets high viewership numbers with an MA, there's also an Action or Drawn Together where the viewership numbers are less than stellar.

Yes God forbid we turn the AC to max in those poor poor guy's rooms, God forbid we keep them from getting 8 solid hours of sleep, God forbid we make them shave, or try to break their spirits withour violence. Learn the difference torture is not the same as interrogation. My uncle was a detective for 15 years and how do you think officers like him interrogate murderers every day?

Anyway I think this show has it's moments. I loved that one with the Cobra stuff had me cracking up. And then the spoof on the mygot CS video with Scarlett Johanson. Oh man to really get that you had to see the video of the "pwn those noobs" references they made. It's too inappropiate to link here though.

I refuse to watch any of AS' comedies outside of Futurama and perhaps The
Venture Brothers. But on the whole I find them to be too crass and coarse for
my taste.
I'd rather watch a continous marathon of FLCL.

I've watched a few episodes on Cable On Demand, but I usually stop half-way through. I don't like most of the adult swim cartoons that are made here in America--most are just a bit too...well...crass for my tastes. besides, I can't stay up that late too often. ^^;

Robot Chicken is a blast to watch, mostly because claymation in general cracks me up. I mean, the one with Jarrod from the Subway commercials? The one where Santa died? The A-team in clay? Classic...or brain killer? The world may never know...

I have to agree with you.Mostly, with the exception of Futurama, none of
the AS "comedies" seem to even have a plot to them. Also a lot of the
humor tends toward the more toilet kind. :shake:
Though for some strange reason people seem to like it more than they do
the really good shows that AS airs like Inuyasha,Samurai Champloo,
Case Closed,etc.
Or maybe you and me are just not hip with that kind of thing.

Werid.. Robot chicken is one of the shows I look forward to watch on sundays. Good stuff. But sometimes the stuff is a bit gross or repetitive. Guess Im in the middle.

Mm..I watched Family Guy...I just didn't like it. It's not my type of humor at all, so it just didn't make me laugh. I've tried watching ATHF and Sea Lab, but I couldn't even watch either all the way through...they bored me.

mitsuki lover -- Yeah, it's sad that the anime really isn't getting as much attention...I guess it's because of the timeslot (although it's understandable why it's on so late). Although I'd be perfectly happy to see AMERICAN animation being used in a mature, story-driven fashion, as well....or at least a character-driven comedy that didn't rely on potty humor.
