New Underlined Links

Hey Straylight,

I just thought I'd comment that I didn't really care for the way that the new messages are underlined. It looks really cluttered and I have a hard time picking out the new stuff.

Thanks,

Calbhach

I can't believe this... When links in the body of the messages aren't underlined at all, you just can't find them. It would be better if only the links in the bodies of messages were underlined and not everything else, but if the links in the body of the messages aren't underlined, you can't find them... They need to stand out in SOME way. If the only way to have the message body links underlined is to underline everything else, then so be it. I need to find the links people leave.

Thanks for saving me the trouble, inkjet.

I'd prefer to have all links underlined than none, but it's probably possible to have them only underlined in the body of the message.

I like the idea of making links underlined only in the message body -- I'd admit that the forum/thread display views are harder to read with the underline.

I agree...in the message body it needs the underline, however, it looks -terrible- on the index and search pages. Is there an easy way to do this, SL, so there are two types of links?

BTW, Bob, I'm glad your opinion is the only one that matters. Makes it tons easier on the rest of us.

deleted... Gonna deal with this in PM

I think perhaps you're confusing hostility for annoyance at your attitude toward others' opinion.

But back to the topic at hand...

If you interpreted my post as a bad attitude towards other people's opinions, you are severely mistaken.

Could both of you use PM? Yes, this should be resolved, but definitely not here.

:bang:

Since everyone seems to agree with what I said about underlining only in the body, is that possilbe SL? If it is, it may be worth looking into.

:bang:

And, yes, if anyone has problems with me, take it to PM... Actually, I'd rather you took it to aim. I'm on Aim a lot, so pleast make good use of it, but otherwise PM.

I never had trouble finding them. Frankly, it's harder to find ANYTHING now.

See, the thing was, you can't tell they're links when they're not underlined. They look like normal text. There could have been a link in the word "in" and it would look like all the rest of the text. When the links don't stand out, it makes it hard to draw peoples attention to the links. I have found a lot of links I didn't know about because he changed it.

I think both Calbhach and Bobtheduck have stated their opinions and shown their positions. Both have good points. Ideally, I'd like to have the text bodies with underlined links and everything else without, but I'm not the one responsible for that.

Because both positions are outlined, could everyone refrain from posting unless they have something in particular to add? Not only would debate be alienating, it also would serve no purpose whatsoever...

I've now changed it so that links are underlined in the message body, but not the interface.

Actually, your change currently only affects the Default skin. I still see underlined links on the interface using the Lite skin. It looks like your change did not affect the Lite skin.

It should work in the lite skin now

Yes, I also see the Lite skin has been affected.

Fantastic job, Straylight. I like to thank you for the work you do in maintaining this website.

Ever had one of those days where you woke up and went online to find things looked different from before and really couldn't point out what it was till someone said something about? The changes look pretty cool.

Did the links go back to being not underlined? Hmm... Nevermind... For some reason, it's NOT underlined sometimes, and it IS underlined at other times... For instance, it's not underlined in my sig...

Now that is curious... do we know why? I would prefer it one way or the other, but I haven't yet noticed any problems.

Maybe allow us to choose whether we want it underlined or not? Could it possibly be an option in User CP or something?

I think it's set up so that posts have links underlined in them so you can easily identify what's a link and what isn't, but the menus and everything else don't have underlined links.

Well, from what I experienced, the links are automatically underlined in the actual body of the post. So, when I go to preview my post before I post it, I do not see the underlines for the links I put in the body of the message, but when I actually post it, the links are then underlined. Links are also not underlined in the signature.

From what I can tell, the automatic underlining of links only applies to the body of the actual post.

For the record, through all these changes of the underlining... frankly, it did not matter to me at all what underlining scheme was in place. Therefore, I am fine with what is currently in place.

I just got round to fixing the underlined links in sigs.
