So, I have this series sitting around my house, it's called The Belgariad.

After I start and finish monster (give me a week) I was curious as to if i should pick this series up?

I tried starting it in 7th, but couldn't get through it. but i thought now that i was older, I might be able to attempt it!

Your thoughts on the author/series?!

I've read the Belgariad. I think it's a fairly good read, enjoyable, somewhat imaginative. You get attached to the characters. It's not an epic like LOTR or as philosophical (or gut-wrenching) as the first Thomas Covenant series, but for fantasy, it is well worth reading.

Eddings has several different series out.He also has a 'nonfiction' book
based on the Belgaraid out as well.It gives some of the economic, historical, philosophical, racial and theological backgrounds to the series.

I remember the Belgariad as a type of anthology - the various nations that the main characters travel to are thematic and somewhat circumscribed -- sort of like the Star Trek episodes where every planet has its own "personality" that serves to further the plot. Not that even Tolkien could safely rise above some of this, but it does serve as the substrate for the main characters to develop and mature.

Again, overall, I thought it worth reading. Eddings does a great job of endearing you to the characters.

Have you read the novel about his main female character?
