IMO, ive never read a book like it.

i enjoyed the book very much, especially since i read it after seeing the movie a few times. although the author's commentaries about what he took out were rather distracting at times, they didn't bother me, and i read them all anyway. i didn't like was the ending, it was depressing, albiet funny, but depressing. i also liked how the beginning of the story went more into depth about the relationship between Buttercup and Wesley on the farm.

i found the commentary funny about the making of the movie, and how they wanted Andre the Giant originally for Fezzik (?), but he couldn't or didn't want to, so they were going to use a relatively unknown actor for the part - Arnold Schwarzennegar, but when they actually got started on the movie, Arnold was too well known, and they ended up going with Andre after all.

if i can find it, i would like to read the original story, without the pages of useless information taken out, just for my own entertainment...

The format really threw me. I had seen the movie a few times but I didn't expect the book to be a story about reading a book. I thought it was clever, though, even if it did add an edge of cynicism to the story.

I must have gotten a different version than the rest of you because mine did not say anything about Andre the Giant or Arnold Schwarzenegger. Should I be thankful?

maybe i'm getting movie facts i read somewhere confused with the book, but i seem to remember one of the commentaries talking about casting for Fezzik... *shrugs* ^^

Actually, the guy who wrote the so called "abridged version" (William Goldman) is the real author of the book. Most of what he wrote in the 'commentaries' (if not all) is made up. Eg, he doesn't have a son, he actually has two or so daughters.

Hey, I haven't read the book OR seen the movie -would you guys say it's worth reading? And what's the general story about? I'm looking for a good book to read, since half the ones I read seem to be really annoying letdowns.

Well, I dont think I would have enjoyed the book so much if I hadn't seen the movie first. But who knows? It is a great book though O my dear Wesley!!!

I wondered! I was going to check about this myself because it seemed like the type of thing William Goldman would do. Does anyone know if there really is a sequel called Buttercup's Baby that is out?
