Ted Dekker, Anyone?

I've just started reading Black too. It's my first Dekker book and not quite what I had imagined from the synopsis. The jury is still out on whether I'll read more; it's gonna have to get more intense soon to keep me interested. But then, I did just finish reading some Orson Scott Card and Stephen Lawhead, so that may have put Black at an unfair disadvantage...

Anways I feel better someone else here is having trouble staying interested in BLACK, personally I followed up "Monster" with "Black", and though "Monster" was dreadfully entertaining, it's not one of the best reads I've had, the most fun sure, but not the best, so I think for me it's just a matter of getting use to his style of writing or somethin', yeah thats probably it. Sure, lets just say thats it. Anyways, nice seein' ya again Esoteric, keep up those awesome art skills of yours

I heart Ted Dekker. I'm reading "Blessed Child" right now but my big sister (who owns the book) took it and hid it! And our library doesn't have it! And I have no money to buy it myself! AGH!

Oh, please, don't start with Black people!!! It's pretty good, but Dekker has done SO much better. Go with Thr3e. Or Blink. I'm begging you! (I'm not really begging you, but take my word for it that even if you don't like Black you should read some of his other books, they're great.)

And Rachel, I'm so sad that you can't finish Blessed Child! I bought that one, it was very good. Tell your sister to be a good girl and send it back or else you'll sick anime-loving cyber friends on her!

Oh, and he has a devotional book out right now called "The Slumber of Christianity", we bought it for my youth group and I read like 70 pages in the car this afternoon. It's pretty interesting and you get a lot of background about Teddy's life (you come to see how a lot of his life experiences affected his writing, it's quite interesting.) Anyways, I think it's gonna be really good, I'm excited about reading more.

Cliched? I've never read a book with an ending like it and I've read a lot of books. Can you put the similarities you found in spoilers possibly? Thanks!

[spoiler]In the movie Fight Club, you find out the character has split personalities. It all coalesces in the end, like in Thr3e. The same thing happens in the movie A Beautiful Mind, some dude has split personalities and realizes it in the end. That's only two, if I thought about it for a while I might be able to remember more, but the Fight Club similarity alone kinda ruined it for me. I guess it does matter which one you read/see first.[/spoiler]

Okay, thanks. I haven't seen either of those movies so I hadn't read that kind of thing before. Beautiful Mind came out after this book was published but Fight Club was out way before Thr3e.

Well, honestly, every movie or book has another movie or book out there that is in some way similar to it, you just have to be able to appreciate each individually.

So today I was at BAM! and I finished Blessed Child, finally. And might I say...it was freakin' awesome.

I read Obsessed a while ago...It wasn't my favorite but it was still quite good. I'm going to try and fin Martyr's Song and read it soon.

You could make some interesting mangas out of his books.

I'm half way through White and its quite good. Many parts are fast paced but sometime I think he could have made a more concise and interesting story within two books, instead of stretching it out and padding it over three. But the book is very good still!
