From Wikipedia:
DC++ is an open-source, peer-to-peer file-sharing client that can be used to connect to the Direct Connect network or to the ADC protocol. It is developed primarily by Jacek Sieka.
Deceiving title though.

It's like Limewire but I heard it's better. (but then, what do I know...)

You need to find a hub(s) to connect to.
They usually require registration and possibly a minimum share amount.
To find hubs through the client, go to "view/public hubs".
Or, you can try searching google.

DC++ is older than both limewire and bittorrents. Last I knew, the Direct Connect system only allowed downloads from one source... Hence "direct connect" but DC++ may allow multiple, (there has to be some reason for the ++)
A problem with it is you often can't get into a server without at least 20 gigs to share... Some are even higher than that. I believe I have seen, at one time, a 100 gig lower limit server.
