Best/Worst Movie Endings?

Postby Link Antilles » Wed Apr 28, 2004 8:02 pm

You know the drill. List some movie endings you love and others that you would like to stab to death with a blunt spoon.

Some of the best that pop to into my mind are
Return of the King
Monty Python and the Holy Grail - hehehe
Return of the Jedi
Empire Strikes Back
The Two Towers
Shawshank Redemption
What Lies Beneath
Field of Dreams

As for some of the worst endings,

A.I. This movie was bad enough but the ending was even worse...
Waterworld YaY! They made it to a small island... yay...
Planet of the Apes (The Remake)

That's all I can think of right now. Your turn. :P

Best Endings:
-The Return of the King (yay can't wait for Extended Edition...)
-Spirited Away
-Star Wars Episode II (the movie wasn't that good, but the ending was really sweet...I'm a hopeless romantic...)
-Titanic (ended just like it should)

Worst Endings:
-From Justin to Kelly (nm, the whole movie was awful hehe)
-The Two Towers (don't hit me...but it was a CLIFFHANGER! I DON'T LIKE CLIFFHANGERS!! *tears at hair*)
-Princess Mononoke (at least the dubbed version)
-Minority Report (I don't remember why, I just really wanted really really bad for a sequel)

I think that "2001: A Space Odyssey" is a movie of a triology, so it continiues..... :)

hmm... good endings...(no order)

Citizen Kane
Memento
Fight Club
Leon
Ben Hur
The Trueman show
A beautiful Mind
The Quick and the dead
Three kings
The color purple

hmm...

bad.. Endings like in Planet of the apes is really bad!
We in our foolishness thought we were wise
He played the fool and He opened our eyes
We in our weakness believed we were strong
He became helpless to show we were wrong

Good:
Memento ( :wow!: )

Just Married (aww, come on, it was romantic)

Bad:

Air Force One
Braveheart (I sobbed and sobbed and sobbed....)

and that's about all I can think of...

The worst movie ending I remember ever seeing was from The Pink Panther.
The bad guys getting away with it? That just isn't right!
I like the endings to almost every movie that I see. There are only a few that stand out in my mind as terrible.

Good endings:
Return of the King
Fight Club (better than the book's ending, actually)
Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade
Braveheart
Office Space
Jurassic Park 3
The Last Samurai

Bad endings:
Underworld (set up for a sequel, which will probably never come :( )
AI (interesting movie; weird, stupidending)

Good Endings:
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
Balto
Balto II: Wolf Quest

Bad Endings:
Tuck Everlasting (What were they thinking?!)

Neutral Endings:
Samurai X: The Motion Picture (beautiful end quote, but why in the world did it have to end like that?)
Heart of Sword's Rhapsody

Money, get away
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay
And all and all you're just another brick in the wall
Shoutin’ in the street gonna take on the world some day
But Bismallah will not let me go
Because I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Tommy used to work on the docks
Union's been on strike
Bright eyes burning like fire
And exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kids

Who will love a little Sparrow
Who's traveled far and cries for rest
Spare him his life from this monstrosity

I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all
And if the band youre in starts playing different tunes
We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you!

I thought some of the best movie endings were from Infernal Affairs, Mononoke Hime, and a few others that were already mentioned. Infernal Affairs had the best ending.

Bad movie endings....I dont' want to go there.

Ugh, add Princess Monoke to the bad ending list. I just saw it recently and I was pretty disappointed.

I thought the ending to the Monty Python and the Holy Grail quite humorous - why? Because the troupe pulled off exactly what they planned: a tongue-and-cheek anti-climactic ending that not only made fun of local, bumbling authorities, but also their political system. Suggestion to anyone who did not like said ending: watch the commentary in the bonus DVD edition. You will receive a new understanding of the film in its entirety.

Best Movie Endings

 1. Memento
 2. The Sixth Sense
 3. The Princess Bride
 4. A Knight's Tale
Worst Movie Endings

 1. Legend of the Fall (I know it was "poetic", it just didn't bode with me)
 2. xXx (Sorry, way too trite "macho man gets hot girl after saving the world"]

Good Endings:
• Oh Brother Where Art Thou; The movie is so-so, but the ending is great
• Castle of Cagliostro; Lupin III telling Clarisse "Why do you want to go back into the darkness. You've only just made your way into the light."
• Fargo: It's a little blunt, but it's perfect.
• Casablanca: Hill of beans...
• Cyrano de Bergerac: (any version) It's sad and weepy, but fits.
• Citizen Kane: What's wrong with the ending? Overated movie, yes, but good ending.
• Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (Original Version) "Luke, take my mask off."

Neutral Ending
• Ben-Hur: My favourite movie of all time...sans rather badly written but still powerful "Passion" sequence.
• Seven Samurai: Favourite movie of all time, but the ending is blunt.

Bad Endings:
• "The Last Samurai". There is just something incredibly fake about that bit with Tom Cruise and Meiji at the end.
• Stander: A Canadian-UK biopic about South Africa's favourite and most faschinating criminal mastermind ends up as a downer of a movie (confused in morals and view) with an ending that would have been perfect if that had been the way Stander had died in real life.

Worst Ending Ever:
The end of "Uzumaki", one of the most nonsensical films ever made. Still, it's worth seeing for the laughs.

Best Endings:
Dr. Strangelove
No Man's Land
The Usual Suspects
etc.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Best endings:
Return of the King
Fellowship of the Ring (only because half of the people in the theater were mad and like, "THAT'S the ending??" duh, people, there are two other movies coming out!)
The Cutting Edge
The Sixth Sense
The Matrix (only the first one)
Pirates of the Caribbean
Labyrinth (only because I love 80s fantasy movies!)
Spaceballs
The Return of the Jedi (okay, George Lucas, it should have stopped there!)
The Empire Strikes Back ("No, I am your father!")
Legend (also only because I LOVE 80s fantasy movies)

Worst endings:
Princess Mononoke
Escaflowne: A Girl in Gaia
Cheaper by the Dozen (the whole movie was bad, but the end especially)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

And the reality
Between the motion
And the act
Falls the Shadow

For Thine is the Kingdom

Between the conception
And the creation
Between the emotion
And the response
Falls the Shadow

Life is very long

Between the desire
And the spasm
Between the potency
And the existence
Between the essence
And the descent
Falls the Shadow

For Thine is the Kingdom

For Thine is
Life is
For Thine is the

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends

Labyrinth (only because I love 80s fantasy movies!)

That movie makes me INSANE. That creepy...Jarith (I think that's how you spell his name)...singing and throwing the baby, then the pop music through the whole thing...*groans*But the ending was cool.

Hm...well at the top of my head...I really liked the ending of "Spiderman" just because I really enjoyed how they broke away from the typical "hero gets the girl" thing. I also loved the ending to "The Sixth Sense." That was great; my dad and I ended up watching the whole movie again just to see the signs of it.

Bad endings...well I was disappointed with the ending in "Kung-Pow" and the ending in "Return of the King" just because it was so long and they had all those fake endings. Seriously...my friend and I kept standing up like every single time the screen went black and then sat down again when the picture came back up. Yeah...-.-' Crazy stuff.

I could probably think of others...but yeah...where's the fun in that? ^_~

That's why you should wait for the credits to actually roll.... besides.... some movies have good stuff in the credits themselves.

Anyone who walked out of Jonah before the credits where done missed one of the best songs in the movie ;)

RotK is probably my favorite movie, but I agree with Hikage Ninja that the ending was annoying. If there was any way to make it seem less disjointed... and I was hoping for more of a "BAM! THE END!" exciting kind of ending, but it wasn't; it was a sweet ending all the same, though.

Pirates of the Carribbean is definitely my favorite ending. I remember leaving the theater feeling really happy and excited and wanting to use the word "savvy"... if you feel happy after a movie, you know it's a good one.

Other good endings:
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Independance Day
Shrek & Shrek 2

Bad ones:
A.I., but that whole movie was disturbing
Gah, there are plenty, but I can never remember these sort of things. All I remember after seeing a movie was whether I liked it or not, and I only can remember movies if someone reminds me or if they really stand out. I don't remember Princess Mononoke's ending that well...

Dude! As evidence of this....

In the movie "Daredevil" you remember the scene where the guy gets pinned in the head with the pencil?

Well, in the credits, under actor listings or whatever, the very last person is "guy with pencil in head". xD

Great endings:

The Princess Bride
Pirates of the Caribbean
The Count of Monte Cristo
Lagaan

Bad endings:
Mrs. Doubtfire (don't even bother seeing it)
Oliver
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Ella Enchanted
Shrek

If you're going to complain about the bad guys getting away with everything in the end, what about Ocean's Eleven. All star cast, awesome shots, great movie, ending...?

Well, all the remakes of the older films have the "bad guys" geting away with it.... the original Oceans didn't end quite so well. Same with the Italian Job, I think there where a couple others like that too.... I wouldn't say that's necessarily a bad thing though, just shows the change of attitude by society.
