(After having done a thorough search of the archives in General Entertainment, I have not seen any threads devoted to this topic. I have also heard that some NASCAR fans exist on this site, hence the idea to make this thread. So, here goes!)

HOWDY, RACE FANS! Welcome to the general NASCAR thread on CAA. If you're a fan of this sport/series of events, feel free to post away. If you are NOT a fan, however... please move along, and leave no dissent or typical debate arguments that concern it. (And feel free to start your own thread about a different motor sport if you want!) We who frequent this thread will do our best to contain our love for the sport to this thread while on this site.

Furthermore, race fans who have a chip on their shoulder should be wary of posting complaints about the good ole' days of the sport, or about current issues of the sport, or both. Reminiscing about the old days in a good mood is just fine, as it helps inspire newer fans (like me; I've only been watching since 2007). Friendly driver-fan rivalry is fine too, but don't let it get out of hand, please.

Please also remember to use spoiler codes for comments on live races and other spoiler-necessary statements.

(I wish I didn't have to post those guidelines, but I know plenty of fans who don't seem to be very happy anymore, and I find it rather depressing/frustrating.)

Sooo I'm a huge Nascar fan! But I haven't been able to watch the races at all due to lack of cable... so I'm really out of the loop this year ^^;

Been a fan since 2006 though, I root for the obvious: Dale Earnhardt Jr. My dad isa huge fan of it too, so it's kind of something that we have in common.

Best family vacation ever: Going to Daytona for the 2009 Pepsi 400 race for the July 4th Weekend.^_^ (48 hours in the car were well worth it. :B)

Well, you CAN get the first 1/3 of the season on network TV... on FOX. But I haven't been able to watch a lot of races either, because church makes up a full Sunday for me. I do stay home for the Daytona 500 though. And I get to see some of the Saturday night races (Phoenix, Darlington, etc), so that's good. Most of the time I just follow along online or in the papers.

First race I ever watched from flag to flag was the 2007 Daytona 500 (excellent choice, IMO, hehehe). I was hooked after that (and I also blame Disney-Pixar's "Cars" movie from 6 months earlier).

I chose Jeff Gordon as my driver after a couple of races because he was the only one whose wiki page mentioned christian beliefs (I know better about other drivers having them now though). I'll root for him until he retires... and after that, I guess I'll root for T-Bayne (Trevor Bayne), this year's Daytona 500 winner. It was a great race and he deserved to win it. Can't wait to see him on full Cup schedule next season!

I'll root for other drivers too, depending on what team they're on and how the race is going.

So far this has been a great season. Plenty of different winners and great finishes. Top 12 in standings changin' it up a lot too (with Junior in a solid FOURTH, he could win it all at the end... if he could just win a race or two to solidify things).

I also don't have TiVo/DVR either... YET. >.> lol

I'm considering getting the Trackpass thing on Nascar.com, but they can really get you in the end, because they renew the subscription without telling you :/

I know! I was a little wary of the points changes, it seemed like they only did it because Jimmie Johnson keeps winning the championship. (Well look who's in the top right now XDDD)

We'll see how things pan out in the end though! As long as Kyle Busch doesn't win the championship I'm happy XD.

I feel the same way.

I don't really root for anyone in particular anymore, although I have certain sways due to my family. I enjoy watching for the art of the cars more than the people driving them.

Yeah, they definitely ARE colorful. Then again, what racecar these days isn't? All the other big motorsport leagues have that same thing goin' on... then again, NASCAR just has that much more sheet metal to splash all that color onto... XD

So. Any of us hoping to catch the Coke 600? I think I'll at least be able to see the last 100 laps, maybe some more, considering how long it goes and my time zone and church and all...

I keep wanting to call it the World 600, having read several general history books on NASCAR. It just sounds cooler. But, either name is just fine... what matters is that its 600 MILES LONG (!), and if you think about that a little longer, its just EPIC to see everyone try to hold out that long. Drivers, teams, fans, announcers... etc. (Though I can't possibly imagine D.W. ever really running out of energy for his commentary, lol.)

Charlotte isn't my favorite either, but I like it well enough.

I don't really have a favorite track. I like my "home track" of Fontana (which I know plenty of other fans hate, and yes it does need some work, but I still like it), but not to where I fawn over it... eheh.

^^; I guess I would be one of those fans who dislike Fontana. But it's not really the track's fault it comes right after Daytona

Another NASCAR fan here, although I'd rather watch other forms of racing but that's all they show on regular tv. Oh well, at least I get to watch fast cars wiz around a track
Me and my family always root for David Gilliland since his father-in-law is a family friend of ours. He doesn't usually do very well, drives a Ford and is sponsored by Taco Bell, but I don't hold any of that against him and just enjoy watching him race and having an excuse to cheer for the underdog

Hah! My cousins and I also keep tabs on Gilliland! He came from the "Home Track" (read: dirt track) in Perris, CA, which is near Hemet. My extended family live out there and one of them used to race against him before he got big. And as I've heard it told, my... 2nd cousin (or is it 3rd? idk) would routinely beat him out there on said dirt track. Buuut... not everyone necessarily aspires to Cup.

When I started watching, Gilliland was in the #36 M&Ms car. I think he kinda used to do better back then. Maybe someday soon, he'll get his big break (though he already got one this year at the Daytona 500, which landed him his current sponsor)...

I will watch NASCAR if that's what everyone else is watching. I used to enjoy the sport back in the 90s when the Cup series was the Winston Cup (in other words, back in the "good ole' days"). I've got my own personal feelings about how the sport has "progressed" since Earnhardt Sr.'s death, but I won't post them on here (just suffice to say I haven't watched it much since then).

I tend to enjoy other forms of auto racing, such as Formula 1, Moto GP, World Rally Championship, and the like a bit more.

Also, I really wish Darrel Waltrip would stop with the "boogity, boogity, boogity" thing. It's old and actually quite annoying now.

That G-W-C finish on the Coke 600 was a JOKE.

Those race officials should have thrown that caution right at the restart! Then the 88 could have pitted for fuel and won it legitimately.

Dale was so close!!!

Actually what Dale did was smart (although painful) If he had to pit he would have ended up like 11 or so, that wouldn't have given him a chance to win AT ALL. He could have finished maybe even farther back.

They knew they couldn't make it to the end, but they knew they'd get a good finish... and seventh place after running out of gas is amazing.

It was a very heartbreaking loss though... I turned the TV off right away. >^<

And I actually like the "Boogity Boogity Boogity thing." It pumps me up and it's fun to say! X3

I've gotta say, even after all the years of watching Nascar, DW is still my favorite to hear the "Start your engines" from. All others seem to lack the energy he brings to the mic. XD;

I didn't finish the race...had been watching the Indy race earlier in the day (Man, was that ending something else!) and with thirty laps to go, I was itching to go read. Of course, I still have a low attention span for tv, since I don't watch much of it at school...

DW is my favorite too, I always miss the Fox Broadcast after June for that very reason. Every other network just doesn't have the same energy that Fox does which is sad :/

Aaaand so we move on to Kansas next. I've always liked the racing at that track. Gets really good near the end. Also, I know one of the guys on the EMS team (or at least, he knows them), and he says they're the best on the circuit, with some of them traveling to other tracks along with the schedule to help out the other EMS teams. I think Kansas definitely earns both of its cup races.
