Part 1 begins as Harry, Ron and Hermione set out on their perilous mission to track down and destroy the secret to Voldemort's immortality and destruction—the Horcruxes. I'm curious as to how they are going to fit the ending together in one movie and still have it make sense. They've done it before in previous movies, but the 7th book is the longest and probably most complicated of all the books in the series. Oh, just saw the whole trailer; they are making it a two parter. woot! \o.o/

That said, while the previous HP movie was a bit of a disappointment for me (not a failure, though; just not as good as it could have been), I am very much looking forward to Deathly Hallows. The trailer looks very nice~

I love the trailer (except for that stupid scene with Voldy squeezing Harry's face) and I'm cautiously optimistic about the movie. I have some shots in the trailer that worry me, and I want to talk about those and the ones that have me most excited. And, yeah, I counted every shot in the movie... An earlier version of this post have my entire blow by blow, but I realize that's way too long (don't want to turn into Tim Rogers from Kotaku) so I'm trying to distill my post

Shots 6 - 11: It uses the trailer trash reverse scream thing that I detest, but strangely enough, cuting it off early actually makes for a good effect. A new use for a cliche sound effect.
[spoiler]Shots 12-15: Voldemort was supposed to look curious. I see no curiosity there. Also, um... It really looks like Harry is dodging, though that may just be the shot immediately AFTER AK hits him as he's spinning to the ground. Harry can NOT dodge... That would be a terrible change... It would miss the WHOLE POINT of that scene.[/spoiler]
16 - [spoiler]Gringotts invasion.[/spoiler] They didn't ditch the death eater, and they DID ditch the other Goblin, making it Griphook who takes them to [spoiler]Bellatrix's vault.[/spoiler] That's the MO for these movies... Removing characters and plot details to save money on casting.
17 - Ollivander. [spoiler]Brings back bad memories of the first DH teaser where Ollivander tells them about the Deathly Hallows... I hope that was a mistake, and isn't actually going to be in the movie... What's the point of Xenophilius if that's the case?[/spoiler]

19 - Shell Cottage at [spoiler]Dobby's Death scene.[/spoilers] I'm gonna bring tissues to the movie, that's for sure.

29. It looks like she's defending them from attackers, but a book loyal way of looking at this is it could be her putting the protections over their camp. considering the state of the other two and where that SHOULD place them in the book.

31. Ron faced with [spoiler]Riddle Harry and Riddle Hermione[/spoiler], I'm guessing.

33. Probably right after [spoiler]Fred's death.[/spoiler] Again, tissues.
34. Yes. 2 parts. Like Order should have been, too. Ah, well.

38. I wonder if they'll work Peeves into this movie, since it's the last one. He probably wouldn't work that well, but a small reference could be nice to the book fans.
43 - 44. Don't know, but if I'd venture a guess, it would be the Gaunt shack. As the Gaunts weren't in the HBP movie, I guess they'll just gloss over it like they did with the OWL grades in HBP. Oh, and Voldemort can summon lightning? Sure, why not.
45. What the crap, WB... What could this POSSIBLY BE? Another Dream? Is this even in the movie, or just something shot for promotional purposes? For those of you who haven't been counting the shots, I'm referring to Voldy grabbing Harry's face. I hope this is a silly dream sequence RIGHT AT THE BEGINNING OF MOVIE 1, where he's having a happy time at Hogwarts with Ron, Hermione, and Ginny, under the watchful eye of Albus Dumbledore, and then Voldy shows up to wake him. I can deal with that. Outside of something like that, I just... I just don't know. It'll be like the burning of the burrow in HBP, only even WORSE.
47 - 49. Lord of the Horcruxes: The return of the boy who lived.

55. [spoiler]Bathilda's house. Wonder if they'll SHOW the snake coming out of her, or if they'll water the scene down.[/spoiler]
56-57. So... Is Ron going to chop it in half? I know it's not THAT big of a deal, it's just the stabbing thing was because [spoiler]it's supposed to be like a Heart.[/spoiler]
65. Ah, how cute. They kiss at Hogwarts. Of course they DIDN'T, but it's not that big of a deal.
67. At the Cafe, Harry not under his cloak. Why are they leaving one [spoiler]of the Hallows out of this movie so often? Oh, RIGHT, face time.[/spoiler] And... There goes my theory that this shows where the break is, as this takes place near the beginning of the book.

72-74. Flaw in the Plan. Of course, [spoiler]Harry and Voldie are alone when they should be SURROUNDED by people (including the recently slain "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU xxxxx" Bellatrix) and there wasn't supposed to be a Goblet of Fire type extended moment of connecting spells. It happens rather quickly in the book.[/spoiler]

Finally the Title. With lightning. And 3d.

I think I did a midnight premiere once... Ironman, maybe? It wasn't even a movie I was ALL that jazzed to see, just one a lot of friends were.

Actually, I went to the midnight launch of MGS4 and DIDN'T BUY IT because I only went to get David Hayter's signature (again) and had reserved the special edition at Gamestop before hearing about this signing event. Which I didn't get because they closed the signature line JUST AS WE GOT TO THE END (Doesn't matter, anyhow, they only gave Signatures to people buying the game. I actually brought MGS1, black edge (rather than the green "greatest hits" type)

I'd rather watch when there are fewer people, but if I could go to one of those premieres where people cosplay, it may be worth it.

But I always go to the Harry Potter with a bunch of my friends, so we pool our money and candy together, and go to the biggest theater near us, and enjoy the movie and the people dressed up and everything. A sleepover at the person's house nearest us is a must after, though!

Oh my gosh.

I'm so behind on everything because I've only read the series up to book 3. But I think maybe that means I enjoy the movies a bit more than I would otherwise, because I don't have expectations to be ruined...

That being said... this looks amazing. I'm so sad that I'm not going to be in the States for a midnight showing.

Just a note - the trailers for Harry Potter are always amazing, but the movies are never quite so action-packed as indicated. Still, I'm definitely looking forward to the movie - it'll be sad once this franchise is over!

Star Wars - done. The Lord of the Rings - done. Harry Potter - almost done. What epic series is there left to look forward to?

I disagree. The trailers for HP have not always been good and I'm not just watching the movies for the action. Also, DH is rather action-packed, just not this half (instead - part 2).

There's still Narnia, provided it doesn't die off at Dawn Treader like the BBC Series did (or did they stop at Silver Chair?)

And... I think this one will mostly be done right... I'll be disappointed in some things, yeah, but that's just a given. I'm like 50% sure these two will be the best in the series. At least part 1... I can see them totally ruining Prince's Tale because it's gonna be difficult to adapt, in the middle of this action movie.

Anyway, on topic: I learned my lesson with the sixth movie. I was all into everything I could find before watching the movie. I watched trailers, TV spots, interviews...I ended up spoiling half of the best scenes that way, and while I still liked it somewhat (not horrible but not my favorite out of all of them), I wish I'd been able to show a bit more restraint so I could be surprised when I actually got to see the movie.

So this time, I've made a rule for myself: Pictures, yes. Videos, no. So I've seen lots of fancy-schmancy pictures taken from the trailers, but I'm not going to watch the actual thing. I gotta say, I can't wait for the Seven Potters scene!

And I remain hopeful for this movie. David Yates has proven the best director for these movies, in my opinion, and from things I've read it seems like everyone is working extra-hard on these last two movies. So I'm optimistic, and hope that my favorite of the books will end up my favorites of the movies

Just got back from the premiere.

Honestly? I thought it was the worst one yet, a major letdown from the fantastic Half-Blood Prince.

Hm, where to start. First, and most obviously, half the freaking movie was jump scenes, complete with blue colors, set-your-teeth-on-edge whining music, and things flying at the camera with flashes of light and loud bangs. Compared to the dark velvet sixth movie, this one was jagged and disjointed.

Second, the violence and gore increased exponentially. Previously, movies 1-6 had ramped up the intensity steadily, but in a predictable fashion. This one had rotting corpses, blood sprayed on the walls, exposed muscles where skin had been ripped off, and a pretty disturbing torture scene. Well, two. Maybe three. Frankly, this is a hard PG-13 movie, and reminded more of The Ring than it did Harry Potter.

Third, the music was pretty bland. Not comparable in the least to the sixth movie, or even most of the movies before it. Fourth, the parts of the book I disliked where faithfully adapted (all the teenage angst and "One Ring" rip off, aimless wandering scenes, etc.) while most of the parts I liked where cut (Dudley hugging Harry goodbye, more time with the cool elder Weasleys). Also, the film managed to completely fabricate a very awkward scene with Hermione and Harry kissing while naked. Yeah, great job script writers.

What is the good news? Most of the worst part of the book is out of the way now, so part 2 should be much better. Also, the movie is worth seeing simply for the animated portion in the middle about the Tale of the Three Brothers (the origin story about the Deathly Hallows). Not only was that the highlight of the movie, it was also some of the best animation I have ever seen. Simply fantastic. Finally, some scenes were done well. They were pretty scattered but it was obvious when you got to them. The opening battle between the Death Eaters and Harry and clones, for instance. Awesome.

All in all, a disappointment. I officially label it the first movie to fail to improve upon the source material. Given that the first half of the Deathly Hallows book is pretty much the worst part of any book in the series, that is quite depressing. Time to go watch 3 and 6 again to distract my inner fan from seeking vengeance.......

All of the "bloody" scenes in the movie were taken directly from the book (and there were really only two), and the torture scene is from the book, too (though they opted not to use the crucio curse, I still thought what the director and writers did choose to do was effective). Additionally, the scene with Hermione and Harry kissing, while not entirely spelled out in the book, makes complete sense within the context of the scene.

Anyways, obviously I loved the movie. XD I thought it was well-paced, in spite of containing the book's slowest scenes. They captured the spirit of the book so well, especially in those scenes, where all of the characters are feeling entirely lost and frustrated. The scene in Godric's Hollow made me tear up (pre-Bathilda]nailed[/i] that scene, and it was SO creepy!), as well as the opening scene (the addition of Hermione's opening scene was brilliant) and the ending. Frankly, the worst part of this movie is that I have to wait eight more very long months before I get to see the next installment. XD

Also, how weird is it to go to a Harry Potter movie and never see the inside of Hogwarts once? XD I'd forgotten how little Hogwarts is in the first half of the book. XD

Well, we rarely agree on Harry Potter, so I kind of expected this. I am curious though, how could you not like the animated bit in the middle of the movie? Further, the part with Hermione wiping her parent's minds was excellent. We can agree on that at least.

Oh, dude, I totally forgot to talk about that scene last night (The Three Brothers). XD Favorite scene in the entire movie, if not the entire Harry Potter series thus far. I totally wasn't expecting it to be done in that way (I thought if they were going to show it, they'd just use actors), and when it happened, my jaw pretty much hit the floor. XD That animation was gorgeous, and it was such a fantastic way to tell the story. The stylization was freaking beautiful, and I'm so glad they chose to do it that way. XD I was seriously impressed. XD
