Saddest movies you ever watched

What are some movies that are guaranteed to make you reach for that kleenex box. Here are some for me:

2. Where the Red Fern Grows

The first movie I ever cried at was The Land Before Time, but I am not sure how that would affect me now. Also, I refuse to see "dog movies" because I know they will get to me, so I'm not sure if I should count them. That leaves:

The Last Samurai
Gladiator

I'm sure there are others that I'm not thinking of, though.

As beautiful as a movie about the subject-matter can be, but still pretty sad.

Bittersweet endings still are bitter.

Forest Gump
Well, it just is.

Shadowlands
A highly fictionalized, factually cloudy spin on an incident in the life of CS Lewis still is heartbreaking.

Akira Kurosawa's Ikiru
Despite the fact that the movie is ultimately about finding victory in defeat, it still is a pretty sad road getting there.

House of Sand and Fog. Regular "sad" movies don't really do it for me. But movies where they build up and the whole thing is set up like some Greek Tragedy have a bigger impact on me. I guess cause early on, you can begin to tell where the story is headed... and there's usually all these little things that if something would have happened differently or someone would have received the correct information, the ending may have been different.

The 96 Romeo and Juliet I thought was pretty sad for the same reason too... I haven't seen that in years though. I just remember thinking it was quite sad. Particularly the way they did the ending on this version.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button I love this movie but its so sad!
Bridge to Teribithia I knew it'd be sad, but I actualy cried! I don't usually cry during movies.
Where the Red Fern Grows Dog movie. 'nuff said.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. Great googly moogly. It was made worse by the fact that we watched it at a youth retreat, and one kid who wasn't mature enough to handle it. He went home in tears, and the rest of us just thought, "Well, that was pointless." Even for a Holocaust movie, it was quite the emotional suckerpunch.

Forgot the all-time, numero uno for this category: The Passion of the Christ. The other movies I listed made me shed a few tears. This movie made me weep openly in front of strangers.

The sadest movie I've ever seen would have to be Bridge to Terabithia.

That beginning marriage scene from Up was so beautiful. I almost cried. But the rest of the movie was really good too. Whenever his wife got mentioned, and when he finds the scrapbook with her writing in it, I lost it. So beautiful.

Also, Letters from Iwo Jima was affecting. Not sad per se, but sort of beautiful and gritty in its own sort of way. Along with more war movies, grave of the fireflies was wrenching.

Dare mo Shiranai was really sad... except I never got to see all of it so I just hear that it was sad.

Yep, read both books (There's a sequel called Tales from Watership Down). I weep for any parent who thought this story was for children.

Mockingbird Don't Sing (true story of child abuse, which only makes it worse)

Maybe I was just too busy being bored and going "Man the trailers for this movie were stupidly misleading" to find it sad.

Try watching it in the wee hours of the morning when you've been awake for a LONG time. Even clips. Man, New Year's was insane.

Also, Watership Down reminds me of a music video I saw just yesterday (And I'm listening to the song right now, huh.).

Movies don't really make me cry, actually. I don't really watch a lot of "sad" movies (Only when my mom makes me watch a chick flick with her.), and some I find too corny.

Yes, I cried my eyes out for the last 45 minutes of it. Good film, but I never want to see it again. I don't think I could take it!

Also Nate the trailers were stupid but the movie was actually not bad. We read the book in school years ago so I wasn't fooled by the trailers.

wow but those are action movies though. I mean not summer block buster action movies but still great action movies.
I would understand if your talking about the endings though.
At first though when I read this I thought "Man, yout shouldn't see the latest rambo movie then."
Especially with him on the 50 cal. mach. gun. but i deter that is more man action than 5 block buster movies combined.

as for movies that were sad I agree with everyone that grave of the fireflies is uber uber sad. Also surprisingly I didn't really cry on the Passion of the Christ maybe except for one part (the beating scene gets me though I definately know the power of Christ's Cruxificion and resurrection.

Also how about hotel rowanda? I heard that's sad.

Broken Trail and Up are the only tear-jerkers I can think of that I actually enjoy rewatches of. For the most part I avoid "sad" movies like the plague...I don't like crying during movies. O_O Real life sucks enough and causes enough tears as is...

To be fair, I did like...y'know, tear up and stuff when "that one part" happened but that doesn't make it a sad movie to me. I cried during a few parts of the Fushigi Yugi anime but that isn't a sad anime. Likewise with the Lion King. Heck yeah I cried hard when Mufasa died but this is the same movie with HAKUNA MATATA and pigs farting, I don't classify it as a sad movie. This is "saddest movies" not "movies that made you cry one time." But oh well.

I hate watching these types of movies. They are so depressing. We watched one in school (can't remember the name) about Rwanda and I wanted to cry.

The Anime Wolf's rain is also sad, but I really liked it.

It's hard to rank this sort of thing, because I'm a huge crybaby, but Blood Diamond hasn't been mentioned yet, and that movie was VERY SAD... Though it would be a good one to show to girlfriends so they may swear off diamonds. *cough*

Seriously, though, that movie was so sad. There are also movies that are made depressing by the endings, even if they were comedies before that. My Girl and Bridge to Terabithia included. OF COURSE Lion King doesn't count, because the death of Mufasa is almost at the beginning of the movie.
