That music scares me. Oh well, they better not mess with the Oompa Loompa Song!

Aside from the music, I'm trying to figure out why it left me cold, but it did. On the one hand, I love that Depp & Burton are involved and have very hight hopes for this. On the other hand, the Gene Wilder version is one of my all-time favorite movies childhood movies.....

This ain't going to be a kids movie... but it's gonna rock. Tim burtons slightly kinked design scheme is going to be awesome in this movie and danny elfman doing music just rocks it one more notch.
Anyone notice the Ed Scisserhands ref in the trailor?
That quote is in my sig now....

I've kept my eyes on it as well, can't wait til its released. Tim Burton is a excellent director (twisted movies) and I bet he'll make the Oompa Loompas creepy.

Johnny Depp... :shady:

Gene Wilder will ALWAYS be the real Willy Wonka.

I'll watch this movie. I might even like it. But I GUARANTEE I won't like it better than the original.

You can't improve on perfection, after all.

I'm definitely looking forward to this movie - Tim Burton is my favourite director and Johnny Depp is one of my favourite actors :D :D
Unfortunately, one thing I loved about the original was that it was in technicolour, which, obviously, isn't used anymore =/

I'm a little hesitant. Willy Wonka=Jonny Depp? I'm afraid I'll never be able to take him seriously again. Furthermore, I have always hated Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, but that probably has something to do with the fact that the movie scared the socks off of me as a child. Scarring memories. *cringe*

Why? I'm in the Gene Wilder camp myself, although Depp could probably pull it off better than most.

I'm just interested in seeing Burton's stylings.

If you thought the first one was scary, this ones sure to be scarier... its just Tim Burton's styling to make things a little off and creepy. The original wasn't really meant to be that way but this one seems to be intentionally bizarre.

Tim Burton seems to like using Johnny Depp in a lot of his movies, doesn't he? I'm with some of the rest of you -- I'll always remember Gene Wilder better as doing Willy Wonka. ^_^ (I wonder if this new version is a musical...)

To be honest, I wasn't a fan of the original movie. So I think I'll pass on this. My brother showed me the trailer a few days ago, and all I could do was smirk.Though I can see how it has it audience. I know many people (including my brother) who are dieing to see this one. Though, from experience remakes don't always do as good as the original... Though there are always exceptions. I may go see it if someone invites me, but other than that.... nah... :P

Edit: I wonder if the Oumpa-lumpa's (sp?) are in this one... That'll be interesting to see :P

Edit x 2: Also, Depp does seem to make a good Wonka... He looks goofy w/ those glasses and hat :haha:

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory, despite the name change and removal of characters, was just about the most accurate book to movie translation in the history of books becoming movies... A good portion of the book's dialogue was transferred directly, and there were few deviations... The removial of the second parent for all the kids other than charlie, the changing of Veruca's room, the removal of a couple wonka inventions (like the square candies that look round), the simplification and PC'ing of the oompa loompa songs, and the addition of the fizzy lifting drink room to make charlie have some sort of vice as the rest of the children did, all said and done, those changes were minimal.

The only thing possible that Burton can do is make it radically different from the book... He can't really go further in the direction of accuracy... I'll still see it, but I won't be surprised to hear it compared to Eddie Murphey's Dr. Doolittle...

My statements come partly from being unable to view the preview.. I don't know if Yahoo is messed up, if Firefox isn't handling it, or if my dialup is preventing me from doing it... Most likely the last one, but the others are possibilities as well... Ah, well...

I don't know. I always thought the movie deviated a fair bit from the book. The book was great, the movie was okay. I want them to make Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator (or whatever the sequel was called).

On the other hand, it can be considered an official deviation, since Roald Dahl wrote the original screenplay himself.

well, like some of you, Gene Wilder will always be Willy Wonka to me, but I'm still REALLY anxious to see what Tim Burton is going to do with it, and of course Johnny Depp.

to be honest, I've never read the original books...I think I'll wait until after I've seen this new movie.

and...you guys thought the original was creepy? o.O I didn't...well, maybe that one part with the boat. but I always liked that movie.

Well, I was a very small child at the time, and the idea of crowning in chocolate was (surprisingly) not very appealing. . . Plus that whole part in the tunnel. Just plain scary, IMHO.

Willy Wonka was a true classic, I just don't see anything topping it. Although, since they have Depp under their belt, I think they'll at least manage to crank out a fairly entertaining movie.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

But who will be Charlie?
