I saw it today and it was awesome. I wanted to cry a few times 'cause everyone looked so sad, XD.

I saw it yesterday... really not what I expected, alot darker than what I thought it would be... And that made me enjoy it so much more. I was so pleasantly surprised that I thought it was awesome. Maybe I'll look back and realize that it wasn't THAT awesome, but I think it is right now.

FFF IT WAS THE BEST MOVIE EVER.

i saw the midnight showing and seriously, it blew me out of the water. all the characters in it had such personality, that you could be like "oh i know a person like that in real life!"

it was just.. i don't want to spoil anything, so i'll keep it hush hush, but seriously, it will not disappoint. it was funny, and exceedingly deep actually. you could run a psychology class on it!

all and all, go see it. right away.

It's interesting to see how mixed the reviews are. It seems some people think it's a great movie, then there's those who think it's a terrible movie. I'd like to think the former when I see it. It's likely I will though. I love when a movie analyses psychological behaviour.

I adore this movie. Spike Jonze really made it his own thing, while maintaining the spirit of the book. The characters were well developed, the cinematography was incredible, and the soundtrack was more than perfect.

Great film. Please go see it.

ChristianSpotlight on the other hand, did not. And it's readers even less so. They had to introduce a non-viewers review section because so many people were unfairly lambasting movies they hadn't seen but heard by way of hearsay. Get your act together Christians.

Just saw this movie! (I even dressed up for it!! ) It was a pretty good moviee!! Although I don't think my friends "got it" XD

I wasn't expecting the darkness...there was a couple of scenes that I think would have FREAKED me out if I were a wee one and had gone to see it... I'm 21 and there were some scenes where I was kinda cowering back in my chair.

But I suppose what was I expecting? Fluffy things aren't ALWAYS cute.

I really related with Alexander... and he was my favorite... I think I'm a lot like him...but I'm also a lot like K.W. haha.

People like Judith scare me a little...where they take your words and twist them around... XD

In a way, I wonder if these wild things were all a part of Max's personality? That's just my interpretation though...

It was a fun movie...I'm not sure it was the BEST. But it was very, very good.

yah I really almost cried when I read PluggedIn's review! I mean thats EXACTLY how I interpreted the movie...

Because they have horns? Remember, anything with horns = the "horned god" baphomet or something like that... That includes Stags, rams, and of course Goats are right out. Most evil creatures on earth, tied with snakes and dragons. Fake creatures with horns, though, are 10x more evil. And a flying snake dragon with horns?

I'm glad PluggedIn Online gave it a positive review. I usually think their a bit... extreme, but they're useful to find out what the "sensuality" in a PG13 movie actually is XD At the same time, it's kinda sad that they feel the need to warn against "people sipping whine" lol.

But sweet. I will see this movie. The theater is too expensive, but we have a really nice $1 theater. (It used to be THE theater in town). It'll probably be showing there.

Crikey! I don't know why we don't have dollar cinemas in Australia. Adult tickets are about $15 AUD (or $10 on Cheap Tuesday).

Last night I saw Where The Wild Things Are with some friends. All but one loved it (he merely thought it was good but that the book was better). First a word of warning: this movie is not for (most) young children. Some would be able to handle it but the majority would be bored, confused or scared. Know your child and their sensitivity and maturity. Be prepared to use your brain. :p

Let the wild rumpus start!



Where The Wild Things Are really is unlike anything I've ever seen. It's 'dangerous', intense, naturalistic, raw, sombre, saddening, unsettling, playful, nostalgic, and redemptive. It's like a psychotherapy session played out in the imagination. There's a bit of Alice in Wonderland in here, a bit of Hayao Miyazaki's My Neighbor Totoro but it's all from the perspective of an 8 (or 9) year old boy called Max, so it's a whole lot wilder. My one complaint is that they changed the scene where Max is sent to his room and escapes by imagining his room turning into a jungle. Otherwise, it was great and really captured the spirit of the book. This is not a children's movie per se, rather it's a movie that reflects on childhood and beautifully captures the confusion we often felt. There's much to think about. I'm still coming to terms with who each character on the island represents. I enjoyed recognising the familiar landscapes and wildlife sounds (it was filmed in country Victoria, Australia). Finally, the acting, cinematography, sets, art direction, script, costumes and puppetry are all very well done. In short, Where The Wild Things Are was brilliant but not always an easy movie to watch. I highly recommend it. 9/10.

If you had trouble understanding who the beasts were and what they represent, my interpretation may help.

[spoiler]Carol - The horned beast is sensitive, prone to anger and always hangs around Max, most likely because he represents Max's wild side. Carol is self-centred and angry. He is easily confused and distressed. He may also (to an extent) represent Max's father. He's fun-loving at times but ultimately rather immature when it comes to responsibility and parenting.

KW - The soft-featured female beast is warm and loving and enjoys time alone. KW is very motherly and protective and represents Max's mother. She tries to understand Max and his way of thinking but doesn't comprehend him fully. She also seems to be a mixture of Max's sister - in regards to her relationship with Bob and Terry, the owls.

Bob and Terry - The owls are seemingly stupid and incomprehensible. Everyone understands them but Max and Carol. Bob and Terry therefore represent either his mother's boyfriend or his sister's friends. He doesn't understand their communications and way of thinking or like them and becomes jealous when they seemingly take his families focus.

Alexander - The goat boy always feels insecure and left out. He likely represents Max's more vulnerable side, the part of him that feels overrun and ignored by everyone he loves (the similarities between the snowball fight at the beginning and the dirt-clod fight in the middle are striking). After Alexander is injured in the dirt-clod fight, Max apologises. This is possibly Max apologising for the pain he caused his mother when he bit her (the goat's wound is strikingly similar to a bite).

Douglas - The cockatoo beast often stands to the side. He seems more mature than the other beasts and represents Max's rational side and possibly his father. Both Carol and Douglas are the best of friends - it's implied that Max and his father used to have a great relationship. Douglas doesn't do much to help when things go south, further instilling the idea that he represents Max's absent father. But the rational side of Douglas flummoxes me.

Bernard - The bull beast is scary at first. He stays with the group but doesn't often get involved with anything. He may represent Max's relationship with his mother's boyfriend. Towards the end Max and Bernard make peace but there's still no love lost between the too. I imagine Max doesn't like his mother's boyfriend much but doesn't hate him as such. The boyfriend exists in his life but doesn't add anything to it.

Ira and Judith puzzled me but they might represent Max's understanding of his mother and ex-father's relationship. They fight each other and bite but it's done in a fun, loving way. This leads me to believe that Max didn't witness domestic violence but saw his mother and ex-father's relationship and the strange ways they communicated their love for each other. He doesn't understand them but he enjoys it all the same.

Judith - The long haired, sharp-teethed beast is creepy as anything. She likes to criticise and is incredibly pessimistic. She could just be the negative voices in Max's psyche or a combination of all the unpleasant people in his life. Maybe a combination of all adults in general. She may represent Max's mother's more disciplinary side or even just the way Max sees people act in real life, as opposed to how he want them to act (see Ira).

Ira - The big-nosed, dopey beast. He is loving, but slow to think and act. He is immature, pretty harmless and a push-over. Ira represents either Max's father or the way Max wants people to act (to be push-overs). He wants to be the king and be noticed by everyone, to understand his feelings. But he doesn't. Maybe Ira and Judith represent the battle between these two ways of thinking.[/spoiler]
