Although there is a Heinlein / Star Trek connection. Roddenbery subconsciously lifted a part of "The Rolling Stones" for the story "The Trouble with Tribbles", not realizing it until after the air date. He called up Heinlein to apologize, but Heinlein forgave him on the spot, on the basis that the 'Flat Cat' sub-plot in "The Rolling Stones" was a direct retelling of a real-life ecological disaster (some animal introduced to Australia in the 19th century. A kind of rabbit, I think.) I bet the OP mixed the two stories up, since they both involved script 'borrowing' and famous Sci-Fi authors.

Sorry, I guess I was thinking of "City on the Edge of Forever." That's the one Ellison wrote. Very good episode!
