Is anyone seeing 9?

Love to. Not actually Tim Burton, though. He's not directing this time.

This, he's only producing. It's actually based on a short film by Shane Acker, who is the visual director for this one, I think. I forget the name of the guy who's actually directing; it's really long. XD

ANYWAYS YES I AM VERY STOKED TO SEE THIS MOVIE. I'm going on Friday. XD

I'm going as soon as I can. Maybe this movie can really help break down the Animation Age Ghetto! I've probably got to wait until Sunday though, since I can't drive and the closest movie theatre is a half hour away. At least it's in the same city we go to church in.

Timur Bekmambetov, but they only show him as a producer as well. Shane Acker is listed as director.

My room mate had too. I told her about it and she said "Man, that sounds like a ripoff of this short film I saw awhile back... Gosh, I can't remember the name of it though." lol

I don't know. I want to see it, but then I don't want to see it. I feel like I'm going to be disappointed. I read the reviews and it seems 'so and so'. I don't want to sit through another Transformers 2 (I mean, $7, man!).

I wasn't terribly impressed, but I don't consider it a waste of money. Its best if you go watch it for the pretty visuals and don't expect much from the characters and story.

Just got back from seeing it a few minutes ago. Overall, I thought it was pretty cool, and definitely fun to watch. Unfortunately, it does seem like story and character development took a back seat to the neat visuals. I felt like the story was pretty vague and mostly implied, even though I never felt like I didn't know what was happening. Chunks of the story definitely went unexplained, though I'm not sure how much of it they really intended to explain in the first place. I also felt like the dialogue was mostly unnecessary. It was pretty bare bones, and really only there to provide further motivation to the characters, which I believe could have been done using a different vehicle (Wall-E did that quite successfully).

As for the characters, they were flat and just as vague, although I think there might be reason for this, given that
each of them holds a fraction of the Scientist's soul, so maybe each of them got a different personality trait? That would at least explain why all of them were pretty much one-trick ponies, though I'm not sure it excuses it 100%.
So overall, I enjoyed watching it and I'd probably see it again. It fell short of my expectations, simply because I was expecting a far deeper storyline. It was more like an elongated and varied version of the short film upon which it was based. Not necessarily a bad thing, I just wish they'd taken it further with more dialogue and story.

I enjoyed watching the movie, I'll admit, but it wasn't the greatest film I've seen in my life. One thing I'll definitely put down is that this was a flick obviously conceived by someone who was an animator and designer first and story writer second.

I liked it, but agree that the plot was a little shaky and I think it my have been a better short film. I was surpised that, even though it seems like a kids movie it would have been scary for 6 year olds and under.
The skeleton cat, bird robot, and snake/spider thing made of 2 were really creepy. O.o
Over all I liked it. 7 was my favorite.

Since when do you take 6-year-olds to a PG-13-rated movie? That rating should theoretically prevent something like that.

Thiiissssss. 9 is rated PG-13; not all animated movies are for children. XD I was really hoping this movie would bring that concept back to America. XD

Exactly! I was hoping the same as RD on this.

I still need to go see this, but I can't drive or bike 13 miles and back. Darn.

Eh? My bad I thought it was PG. I was the only person there over 13. The other people were kids, exept one parent, but the theatre was really empty.

The movie was pretty decent, but it fell short of my expectations story wise also. I loved the dolls though, especially 9's design.
I'm totally 7 =D

Definitely a triumph of style over substance. As others have already said, the characters are really flat, and I also really didn't like the ending.

But MAN this movie is pretty. I really dig the post-apocalyptic Toy Story approach (you know, everything is consistently REALLY BIG) and the designs for all the machines are fantastic. Too bad there couldn't be put into service for a better plot.

I want to watch this one. I'll probably wait till it's either in the dollar theater or on DVD though.
