Possible Travesty: Buffy TVS Rights Holders Planning Whedon-Free Movie

Buffy: The Vampire Slayer sans Whedon.

A new incarnation of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" could be coming to the big screen.

"Buffy" creator Joss Whedon isn't involved and it's not set up at a studio, but Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment are working with original movie director Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, on what is being labeled a remake or relaunch, but not a sequel or prequel.

The new "Buffy" film, however, would have no connection to the TV series, nor would it use popular supporting characters like Angel, Willow, Xander or Spike. Vertigo and Kuzui are looking to restart the story line without trampling on the beloved existing universe created by Whedon, putting the parties in a similar situation faced by Paramount, J.J. Abrams and his crew when relaunching "Star Trek."

I don't know how many Buffy/Angel fans here are here, but as a fan myself I can't imagine Buffy ever being good without Joss Whedon's trademark wit, humor, and characterizations. Honestly, the premise just doesn't seem good enough to stand on it's own.

Ah well. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Well, just remember that Whedon didn't create Buffy, he just directed the series. Buffy is quite older than that if you can remember the first movie. As a matter of fact, if they are continuing their franchise, which they have all the rights to do, we should actually be thankful that they chose not to use the same Whedon's continuity, which would be a travesty too ridiculous to contemplate.

They might as well give it another title, like "Another-That-Which-Must-Not-Be-Named-For-The-Sake-of-The-Internet-and-Horses-Everywhere". I like that title! xD
