It's a Wonderful Life

Postby rocklobster » Sun Dec 17, 2006 5:29 am

I just watched It's a Wonderful Life again. I watch it every year and never tire of it. It's such a nice movie. Does anyone else here like it? What I really like about it is that it's so positive. Especially if you know that Christmas is, sadly, a time when suicides are quite often. (or so I've heard)
I think Clarence puts it best:
"Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?"
That is so true.
And besides, Lionel Barrymore as Mr. Potter makes a great villain. He's just so heartless you can't help but hate the jerk. I always love the scene where he offers George a job and he tells him:
" In thewhole vast configuration of things, I'd say you were nothing but a scurvy little spider. You... [to Potter's assistant] And that goes for you too! [to Potter's secretary] And it goes for you too!
I'll bet the secretary was thinking "What's his problem?" ;)
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you. I appointed you to be a prophet of all nations."
--Jeremiah 1:5

It's one of my Dad's favorite movies, so I grew up watching it. ^^ It's a classic film. Hard to believe it did so poorly when it first came out.

Frank Capra and Jimmy Stewart so what's not to love?
I haven't seen it for ages but it is one of those films I remember growing up with on tv,the other being The Wizard of Oz.
