My DSL modem is dying...

Postby Bobtheduck » Tue May 25, 2004 9:41 pm

My DSL modem keeps failing, forcing me to reset it all... I reach down to uplug the power (to reset it) and every time, the thing feels like it's burning... I wonder if it's overheating, but if it is, i can't do a darn thing about it... I don't have it on carpet, and the vents are free from obstruction, but it doesn't matter... It still gets hot enough to burn, and it fails after a certain amount of time being on... Grr... That makes me so mad... But, strangely, it's not just my DSL modem... My cell phone is also overheating when I charge the battery, and it has been acting funny... Maybe Verizon just bought shoddy parts to make their stuff, who knows, but this is really starting to frustrate me...

Maybe it's possesed? (Dead serious...know a guy who was trying to listen to a Christian CD when it unexpectedly broke his discman...to this day, there is no known cause...and another guy that had his TV come on in the middle of the night...but I could be barking up a tree)

I discovered a couple days ago that the cable attached to my DSL modem is damaged...one of the four cables is broken somewhere along the cable...amazingly, IT STILL WORKS!
I'm back to make a post or two every couple years...

It certainly sounds more like a power surge problem than anything else...um do you recharge your cell phone with the same outlet as your DSL modem is connected ? You might have to adjust the circuit breaker in your house too...of course it isn't suggested that a non-electrician work with that. You might be able to see how many watts of electricity are floating in to that power outlet.

Or worse maybe it doesn't like you very much and is indeed possessed. > . <

I'd get one of those power outlet testers or analog testers or electrical circuit testers or whatever they're called.... your can find 'em at the local hardware store from $5 to $50.... normally the $10 one will do the job... just check all of the electrical outlets in your house...then, either check the normal outage out with your power company or compare with a neighbor or friend without possessed electronics. O'yeah... and those outlet testers are fun to play with.... for the easily amused like me...
