Video probs

A lot of videos have been freezing or slowing down or losing framerate or going off sync... I used to be able to run any video fullscreen no matter how high the bitrate... Now, every WMV file skips, avi's crash, and MPEGs aren't always reliable either... Even my MP3's skip... OFF THE HARD DRIVE! What's with that? I mean, MP3's that worked before... It behaves the same on WMP, on realplayer, and on Jet Audio... Any clues what's up?

1) defrag the harddrive.
2) run less things in the background. beware, could be spywares.
3) get better codecs, although i doubt that'll help in this case.

I'd say that even just running ScanDisk might help; but if it doesn't or if you use Windows XP (as opposed to 95, 98 or ME), then try defragmenting.

If you do run XP, run ScanDisk by right-clicking the C drive -> Properties -> Tools (at least I think that's right). Other than that, I have nooo idea why MP3s would skip off the hard drive o.O That's too weird. You don't use Winamp?

If one or two songs do it, it's possiblly a defrag issue. But EVERY song? I'd throw my lot in with the "Look for spyware, dude" crowd.

Yeah, skipping is usually due to CPU cycles being tied up... programs in the background.... again the Spyware thing, however it could also be damaged software or some sort of hardware thing that's sending signals to software using up CPU cycles.

Hopefully (if that's the right way to look at it) it's just some spyware/adware that snuck in (easy enough to remove and fix), otherwise you'll have some serious tech searching to do.
