So, which window manager do you use/prefer?

Personally, I used to like KDE over Gnome, but I just installed KDE4, and hate the menu.
Currently, I'm toying with other light ones, since Ubuntu doesn't support PWM any longer.

The two that I've spent any substantial time in have been Gnome and Fluxbox/Blackbox. Blackbox is great for looking snazzy and being really, really lightweight and minimal. On the Gnome side of things, I have heard good things about KDE with respect to the features and development, but back when KDE was about 3.0, which was when I had to decide between the two, I really didn't like how KDE looked at the time. Now that KDE4 is out, I may have to reevaluate my decision once I ever get to using a Linux box again.

As I said, I liked KDE 3.x for the level of configuration possible, and the window decorations it provided. KDE 4 doesn't seem to have the same level of tweaks (at least superficially), and the expanding root menu is gone in favor of a large box that contains only the current level. I'd be okay with that, if only it wasn't so freakin' large.

I use GNOME because I personally like the way things are organized, but that's just me.

Hm... I don't like much of anything, but I guess I'm weird that way. I'm using Gnome, but have Compiz as wm, and I got rid of all my panels, and replaced them with Stalonetray and Conky. I also have no icons on my desktop.

(Oddly enough, one of the primary reasons I use Compiz is because it's the only WM I've found whose workspace arrangement doesn't depend on a panel applet!)

Window manager? REAL Linux users stick to the CLI.

(j/k) ;)

You know, Kali, that's not too far off from how I feel. lol. Nearly all of what I do in Linux I do from the command line. I find the mouse to mostly get in the way.

I'll be the first to admit, however, that I use linux as a server OS, not as a workstation.
