My mouse is going crazy, crazy I tell you!

I'm starting to have a lot of problems with my mouse. It is your standard Compaq mouse with the little roller ball.
It has started doing random things --like the cursor will get stuck on the side of the screen or will only go up and down in the middle of the screen --and then suddenly it will work again --and then get stuck again.

I think I just really need a new mouse --I've had this one for 2 years and I think it's just on its last legs...

What kind of mouse do you guys recommend. I was thinking of a laser mouse instead of a roller ball one --but I am not sure what brand to buy...

Any suggestions?

Have you tried cleaning it? Open up the bottom and scrape the gunk off of the little wheels you find under the ball. Or get a laser mouse. they're cheap now. And rad.

I have cleaned it many, many times --5 or 6 times tonight alone --I think it's just worn out.

Question: What is the difference between an optical and a laser mouse?

Also, what do you think about this mouse? I'm thinking about buying it. Or maybe this one?

I can't spend a lot of money on a mouse, but I want one that will work well (and doesn't have a little ball) and one that is not some boring black/white/gray color...

I'd recomend the Logitech LX3 Optical Mouse USB,PS/2 if you are looking for a basic 2 button mouse with a scroll. Its cheap and its by far the most well rounded mouse I have used in terms of movement.

nooottt... exactly

most optical mice use a sort of light detection system... laser mice use a true laser...

they are often labeled either way

I went to WalMart today and bought a Micro Innovations Optical Mouse. It works great and was only $10.
Thanks for your help, guys.

Glad you found a good one, if you didn't find anything I would have suggested going to newegg.com and looking for a cheap laser mouse. If you dont play games something more expensive wouldn't be required.
