Problem with Media Player

Good day.

Recently my mouse died, but that isn't important right now. What is is that when my mouse kicked it, the computer froze. I turned off the computer since Ctrl+Alt+Delete didn't work, and when I restarted, it gave me the message that Windows was not shut down properly, and asked how I would like to start it. I responded by saying that I would like the last known good configuration to be used.

Whenever I start up my computer or try to use Media Player, however, I get the following error message:

The procedure entry point GetIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link library MSDART.DLL.

Virus scan reveals no problems, and I updated Windows fairly recently.

Any idea what is causing this, and how to solve it short of wiping the hard drive?

Okay, this was weird.

I googled "GetIUMS" and found a site that said the following, which I proceeded to do, and it worked... o.O:

"I searched for msdart.dll and found 2 *different* files. One in the dllcache folder and one in the system32 folder. And what was weird was that the one in the dllcache folder was version 2.8 while the one in the system32 folder was only 2.7. Deciding to place my trust in the newer version, I replaced the older file in system32 with the newer file from dllcache..and voila..problem solved.

For whatever reason, I did as he said, and Media Player runs perfectly now.
