Alright, I am starting a project to build a PC that I could use in my own room. I want to go on this project and build the computer using step by step information and doing what is right. I have wanted my own computer in my room forever, and instead of buying one whole computer, why not just build it? So I think I am going to start that project.

What I need from you guys is information on where I can get parts for computer so I can start building. What I am really looking for is to find a package that has all the parts in it that I need. It might take me awhile to raise the money to get it all, but I will do it, because I want to make a PC of my own. So do any of you know where I can get parts in a package, all that I need? I know I need a tower and a moniter and all, I will have to buy that separately (maybe, if not that would be awesome).

If any of you guys know where I can get some of this stuff, I will be happy. I would alos like to know if anybody knows where I can get some tutorials. I could get a book and all, and if I need to I will, but I was wondering if any of you know where I can get a book and all. Well that about covers everything that I want to get and all, I am ready to tackle this project. Thank you.

I've built a computer and redid another. (It's a little buggy, but that's from the parts I use.) I never used tutorial, lol, I just jumped into the project like the impulsive person I am! I don't recommend that, at all. Well, unless you have cash to burn and aren't afraid of electrical shock. That was a very good learning experience for me and I've made almost any mistake you can without killing yourself. Anyways, If you have a hardware question, PM me!

If you want to build your own computer, I highly recommend the "Motherboard Starter Kits" that a lot of computer retailers do, because often if you're new to building systems your knowledge on what CPU and RAM are suitable for what motherboards is a bit shaky. The package usually includes a CPU, cooler, board and RAM (although often not much, so you might want to buy extra ram to boost things up a bit).

The rest is up to you -- the lovely thing about building your own systems is that you can make it into whatever you want (within your budget). Also you will save a great deal of money.

A few tips:

Make sure your CD writer comes packaged with the Nero software (many do, and it's nice to get a "free" copy of nero)

Find/get a flat headed screwdriver - this is used to attach the cooler to the cpu. Using other implements to do this task can often result in damage to the components. Too many of my friends have done this.

Plug the system into the power outlet and keep your skin in contact with the case while you are building -- this will ensure that you are earthed and don't cause static damage. Alternatively get yourself one of those wrist things.

Make sure you have plenty of screws! (most new cases come with a nice little bag of screws)

Don't get a MicroATX motherboard. I had one once. They are a pain. Get a normal fullsize ATX board instead

It's cheaper to base your system around an AMD processor. Also, I've found that AMD boards tend to be more geared towards overclockers and customisers.

Sound advice, DJ! Let's see. I've got around 7 personal units that I've built. (Really, I still have them: 486 DX2 50, P166, P233, PIII650, KVI450, KVI950, XP2100. Acutally, I gave the 486 to a friend who's using it as an email server). I've also got dozens that I built for various companies that I worked for. The problem is, that was over two years ago, which translates to "Not recent enough to be really usefull."

I'm in agreement with DJN about pretty much everything he said. Go with AMD. Go with a full size MB. Keep the system plugged in (but not on!) - as that will keep you "earthed" (In the US, we call it being "grounded").

ok screen savers is fine show but if you want computer parts go to http://www.newegg.com they have lots of computer parts there. How to do it well i'm not sure on books and step by step but if you need any help pm or aim me. I bulid computers all the time. And i'm not sure if there is any package that will have parts you need in it.

In order to buit your own PC,read the manual from each of the parts.
