Prob in IE (please don't mock me)

I'm in the ABSOLUTE NEWEST version of IE, and it locks up whenever I use the "find(on this page)" more than 3 times in a row. Anyone know why that is? I really rely on the find feature, I can't afford to have it lock up on me.

I'm on XP with the newest urgeant upgrades. 1 GHz Celeron processor. Um, I'm not sure how much ram I have. I've got an E-machines, so it's all of their stuff inside. It's an 18GB HD I believe. Programs running include "Trillian", "Aim", a non-functional "X3watch", windows task manager, and of course Internet Explorer. I only started having this problem yesterday.

Task manager tells me IE is using 97 percent of my computer's resources. Ooh, major point I forgot to mention. Currently I'm using TrendMicro's Virus scan (Online), but I don't think I was using it before, when IE locked up.

I think I have experienced some kind of the same problem... it stopped when it didn't find any matches, the second try.. but this happened on a computer that is not mine several times until I gave up.

maybe it's something Bill Gates should fix... I don't know how to solve it(other way than formatting the whole drive )

If IE is using up lots of system resources, run an "AdAware" scan through your system. It might not look like IE is hijacked, and you might not have clicked on any installer popups, however some spyware can find its way into your computer when you simply visit a website.

Of course it might just be a bug.

EDIT: X3watch and the virus scanner might be interfering too. Try disabling the virus scanner and seeing if it works. (You can get AVG for free as a replacement if you find that's source of the problem)

Maybe your computer just doesn't have enough RAM to handle all that stuff...Internet Explorer is a big-time resource hog :\ But the spyware thing is likely too. 'Course, this is M$ we're talking about here so...XD Could just be some stupid bug they never fixed.

My two cents tossed into the well of tips:

Tryout Spybot Search and Destroy... it will kill those nasty little spy baddies on your system. I agree with SL, disable the virus scanner and try AdAware. Normally with my hatred to the Celeron processors, I would say something... but I won't. Yeah, RAM could be an issue, so it doesn't so the RAM under Start --> Control Panel --> System?

And not to beat a dead mule, but get Mozillia or get the google tool bar for IE, at least.

I closed X3watch and am not using virus scanner. I ran S&D and I have no spyware that it knows of. It only locks up one instance of IE... Ok, gonna open a new window to test: My Idle Process is taking up 98% of my resources and Iexplore is using up 20+ megs pre new instance, and... It doesn't matter... Whatever it was that stopped it, stopped it... I wish I knew what was making it do that... I closed X3watch and I closed Aim... ok, opening aim... Aim's not the problem... Except that AIM won't close now... Aim is taking 30+ megs... I know that's not good... Trying Trillian: NOpe, not trillian either... Tryign X-3 watch: Ok, that's what did it... I don't know why I can't get it to work...

Install the google toolbar...the toolbar has a nice feature that allows you to type in text into the search editor and it will show up as buttons on the right, and when clicked, the buttons search for matching text in the page.

anyone can install this toolbar and it will not hog resources or anything such as that.
