Paypal questions?

So I want to set up a Paypal so I can offer commissions to earn money for charities and when there are no charities to do commissions for, I would also like to earn money for myself. (but for now it's for a certain charity...)

But I have no idea how to use it, or what to sign up for so I can earn money from it...anyone got any advice? It would be really appreciated!

Companies spend huge amounts on advertisements for a reason. As great as it is to search for work, I'd much rather have the work come to me. My friend came out with an Iphone game and had it preadvertised all over the place, in under a day it shot up on the charts (it wasn't even that good, just great advertising before hand). You can post your talents/deviant art link on craigslist offering your services etc, put up flyers around whatever school/workplace you know their are boards at. You are your own boss, so your going to want to know what to charge upfront. You've had a deviant art account for quite some time so I'm sure you've come across others prices.

Paypal is extremely handy but can also be a PAIN IN THE BUTT (check your inbox for a detailed response in PM form). All you should have to do is give the person whos paying you the EMAIL you use for your paypal account. They can send the money to that email via paypal. I'd even suggest having them pay upfront or AT LEAST half. The nice thing about Paypal is that if you rip this person off they can put up a dispute which instantly refunds or locks the money until the dispute is over. Hopefully some of the other users will comment on this and give you a better feel, feel free to ask any questions.

I was wondering how to set all this up as well. Any solid instructions on how sign up works and what you have to have in place to use it properly?

A bank account or credit card.
You can trust paypal, you just need to keep your transactions (as well as any sent/received emails/receipts/proof).
You don't NEED a bank account or credit card linked to the account if its under $100 (theres a certain limit), but in order to withdraw/spend you do after a certain limit.
If it gets confusing let me know and I'll restart up an account and answer questions.

i have paypal. you need a bank account or a credit card, and it is super handy, actually. I don't have any problems using it. and all you do is give your email to the person, and they can charge/pay you for whatever you are buying/selling.

(i use it all the time to feed my addiction of buying plugs for my stretched ears XD )

Mod note: generally we're not wild about financial matters on CAA due to the risk of liability. People need to realize that any kind of money escrow or payment system has a risk of fraud, and Paypal is no exception (quite the opposite due to its prominence). Any advice you get out of this thread is strictly at your own risk.

Not so much paypal as finance in general. There's no firm rule against this, which is why I haven't locked the thread, but we are careful about incurring liability.

I used to have people put the money directly into my bank account. I think its Western Union that allows you to do that, only you have to give the person your personal information etc. I'd research it first. Paypal's pry the best way, but like Shoor' said, theres always a chance of fraud (like chibi said though she's never had any problems - pry because she buys from major companies, many times companies will resend a product just to not have negative feedback).
