NaNoWriMo 2006

Postby Kawaiikneko » Sat Sep 16, 2006 9:21 am

Hey everyone! I'm trying NaNoWriMo (which I'll be abr. as NaNo for the rest of this post)for my first time this year and I was wondering if anyone else on CAA is going to be doing it.

For those of you unfamiliar with NaNo, it stands for National Novel Writing Month and it's a challenge to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. The point is to get it down fast, not strive for quality. If you want to learn more about NaNo you can check out the website @ http://www.nanowrimo.org/

SO, who's doing it?

Well...I'd like to try it this year. I don't know if I'm going to do it, though, I'm in my first year of college, and I work part time...^^;

I'm glad I'm trying it in highschool, especially in this EXTREMELY easy semester I'm having... It'll be a nice challenge while school is boringly easy.

I do believe I'll be doing this. I'm skeptical as to whether I'll be able to finish or not, though. Ah, but I shall try. I presume we can gather notes and stuff about or novel before the start date?

I'm going to try my hand at this if college work doesn't pick up. Not quite sure what I'm going to write about yet, but I intend to spend October mentally preparing. D:

Sounds like a good idea. I might try it when I finish some of my other projects. (I am currently making yarn.)

Yay, thanks ^-^

Um... I sort of have an idea for a fantasy-ish story. I usually don't plan anythign specifically until I'm actually writing. It seems like it's harder to write the more I plan something. I do better to just run with it as I write.

What I'm writing is kinda based off of a rp I'm in here on CAA. The main characters of the story will be my characters Scathe and Marcus, and basically it's the same concept of a dream world paralleling Earth... like when certain people fall asleep they wake up in a different world and have lives there too. Anyways, Marcus is a convict, and Scathe is from a small rural town that she's really eager to escape from. She's also a little controlling, so when Marcus and her are kinda forced together in Ishem they clash alot. It's going to be fun writing their arguments!

My sn is Blithe and I'm adding you both as my buddies. We're going to have a hectic November!

I'll be in on it this year, though I doubt my meager attention span is a match for such a beast.

Rimeing *nods*

Even though I understand you're not stealing Laura's RP idea, you might wanna let her know that you're basing your story off her idea and make sure that that's okay with her.
I guess the whole dream world idea has been done before though, I'll leave it up to you.

Don't worry Danny-boy, she already asked and I said it was all good.^^

I want to try this, but I'm already doing a writing project, and I want to finish that before moving on. I don't even know what I'd write about if I tried...

Screen name? I was not aware of the ability to obtain a screen name for this event! Perhaps you should enlighten us as to where one gets this screen name and what one does with it.

Oh okay, sorry for bringing it up ^^;

Wait, you write screenplays, Laura? I wasn't away of this.

Lt. Santa, you sign up on the NaNo WriMo site. Up at the top right corner there's a "sign up now" link. I think you have to have a screen name to upload your novel at the end for word counting, and also to post excerpts, make writing buddies, read some of their work, all that good jazz.
As you spend November writing, you can draw comfort from the fact that, all around the world, other National Novel Writing Month participants are going through the same joys and sorrows of producing the Great Frantic Novel. Wrimos meet throughout the month to offer encouragement, commiseration, and -- when the thing is done -- the kind of raucous celebrations that tend to frighten animals and small children.
Rofl!
You know, before I went to the site, and saw all the people participating in this thread, I was completely put off by the thought of 50,000 words. I mean, 50,000 words... but then I read a little bit more on the site: how it's about quantity and making yourself be creative without worrying about trivial stuff like spelling, editing etc... and now I think maybe this might be fun. Even if I don't make it, it could be fun to do. ^^ So I think I'll sign up and agonise over doing this with you guys!! =^-^=

*...Signing up...* ...All right! I'm 'Neko_Supreme' . I'll add you guys to my writing buddies list. ^^

yaaay!! more people! Glad to know you're doing it photosoph. I'll add you to my buddies list right away..

maybe I should put in my first post that it's all about quantity not quality... people seem really put off by 50,000 words until I mention that.

btw the running total of people I have roped into this with me at school is officially 5, with a few thinking people bringing that up to 8. Yay for spreading the word! haha I put posters up.

Yeah... I've told a coupla people I know who write... but the first one writes shorter pieces, so I don't think she'll enter, and the other one's really busy with assignments for Uni (University... College).

Thanks for the compliments, Felix! :hug: I think I'm going to try to use this opportunity to just scrawl out those stories I've planned and kept in the back of my head, and haven't attempted due to wondering if I can write them well enough. So I think I'll try to splurge on these ones and just keep writing... hopefully at least getting a good mesh for how the total story will go. I doubt I'll use what I write for the final product, but at least I'll get ideas for the stories and hopefully be more able to write them afterwards. ^^ And if I finish one story before I reach 50,000... I'll just start on the next! XD

And thanks, KNeko! Btw, what's your s/n there? I don't think I saw it on your first post.

That sounds great about your stories. That's not a bad idea, actually. I don't think it ever said that have to limit yourself to one story. ^^/
