This is something that I came up when thinking of the backstory to Hunter Marcus. Yes, that does make it the backstory to a backstory.

Lock the windows, bar the door,
Hide the children neath the floor.
Tremble at the Elvish fun,
Live in fear...
The Hunt has come.

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

I was rather suprised when this degenerated into couplets.

Intangible, floating past
twining about my fingers
with a spectral light.

Followed out of my world, it leads me on;
clutched at, followed by a growing throng.

Writers strain, pen in hand,
while poets lay hold as long as they can.

Their strength wanes, their fingers slip.
Cries of anguish escape their lips.

They have touched on one true thing,
the Perfect Word that none can claim.

The singular expression, unrationalized,
the shining truth before all eyes.

They cry for it, despairing, and pray to concieve
a suitable vessel, that all may believe

in this glorious light, the wonderous ideal,
which, though never achieved, has always been real.

So still they try, with lengthening reach,
to hold fast the one thing they will always seek.

Icarus, this one is very, very, very good. As you say, "swing!" Well, maybe you don't say it quite like that... -__-)\ Anyways, place some more of your great poetry. ^_____^

I agree, also. This is an excellent poem! I'm not really sure what to say, but it is very very good!

Cool, Icarus. :thumb: I especially like the third.... line? Paragraph? Part? >>>Writers strain, pen in hand,

Mine too. Let's call it lines seven and eight.

I've been meaning to write something like this next one for a while.

"The Wild Night."

Wondrous is the wild night,
though I pity you should it be your plight
to labor when the sun has gone,
clouds gather and rain anon.
Leaves and grass dance upon
the winds whim.

Grim the thunder comes,
and divers thunders sound at once.
A bluish light that twists the trees,
sudden shadows that shake the knees,
might cause you to flee the scene
and yearn to stay away.

Away from the whispered, rushing sound
thoroughly pummeled, dampened ground.
The soft wood rots, leaves smell sour.
A storm extends the witching hour
while the clouds unleash their power.

Dour the face that seeks the sun,
and verdant fields in which to run.
Thrill your heart as birds take flight,
escaping with the waning light,
for wondrous is the wild night.

This is a cool poem. I like the way you end it. You have all this stormy stuff and then you repeat that part about the wild night. Nicely done.

Same here, Chloe. Good job, Icarus. ^^ It kind of reminds me of that storm I sat through during the summer. You could almost feel the dark tension in the air, and your poem really captured that feeling.

Just a little something about the lack of color. It goes to the tune of "Green Acres"

Blue nazi is the name for me.
I'm giving up on royalty.
Text spreading out so far and wide.
Keep that color just gimme ol' black and white.

Times Roman will be my new way!
"Font=comic sans ms" is quite a lot to say
Every post will save a sec or two.
Color I love but there will be no more blue.

They viewed...
Much blue

Their ire..
is fired.

You have no choice
Don't make lot's of noise

The blue nazi that is me!

Icky, that was great!

I can't believe you've given up on the blue. It just won't be the same. I guess it is easier, though. :) :thumb:
