My hand at writing

So, recently I have had a craving to write a story of my own. Maybe it could even be published some day...I just like the idea of new frontiers. I am not really sure what to call it yet, but we'll see. Please tell me how i can improve. I hope you like it. *waves at adoring fans* Okay, with out any more silliness, here's part of my story I've written:
Kinda long, sorry...
A grey-blue darkness covers the wilderness. Rain drenches the treetops of an overwhelmingly vast forest. The new grows over the old like a normal wood, but for some reason, it is not quite the same. Rumors whisper that it a forest of magic. Many people have tried to cross this, but have failed because of that magic that is said to live in the darkness below the many-branched trees. The animals of the forest along with the forest itself led many to their deaths during its dominion.
The only known path through these woods is an ancient road, now only a small, winding path. In many parts it is grown over, flooded because of the recent rain. Surely it is not a safe or true way to go. Even so, a wanderer walks on its eroding, treacherous surface. This person, shrouded from sight by a cloak, is indistinguishable from any distance. The only thing that is noticeable is the sound of footsteps and a dark blot where there is no rain.
Suddenly, in the darkness above, a great thunder cloud booms and rattles everything in the forest. A blinding flash of light descends from the heavens, searing the ground right in front of the mysterious traveler. The hood of the cloak falls back and the traveler’s face is visible for a fraction of a second as she falls back into the eroding mud, tough roots, and grinding pebbles of the old highway. Her blue-green eyes are large with fear as the teenage girl sees the approaching lightning. The normally fair face is now as pale as death, contrasting with a dark green tattoo of a star. Her now-wet red hair stands on end. She was scared beyond belief; it was a near miss with fate.

That's cool; a very descriptive intro. :thumb: I'll wait to read more. At the moment it's sounding very much like your average fantasy, but I'm sure as the story goes on you'll add unique ideas of your own.
