Fullmetal Alchemist creator Hiromu Arakawa will launch a new manga series in this year's 19th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine on April 6. It is the fifth of the five new manga series that the magazine is starting this spring.

So I'm pretty excited about this. Hopefully we can get another awesome thread going, and maybe a mod can change the thread title once we learn the name of the series.

Well, at least there won't be any month-long waits this time.

Hurray! I only wish that I had found out a month later so that I would only have to spend one week waiting anxiously. I can see myself getting very giddy at seemingly random moments as I suddenly remember this for the next month.

Well all know it's going to be Demons of Shanghai: The Next.
Or maybe I'm the only one who would want that.

I would want it but I want whatever Arakawa will give.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!:D Happy Happy Happy ^_^
:rock::dizzy::hug:
On Side note: a school manga? That'll sure be interesting...especially after she did a very fantasy-based one. I'm sure she'll do it just brilliantly though ^_^

The setting doesn't give me much hope. Another high school series? I mean, I'm okay with high school themed stuff sometimes, but I expected a bit more from Arakawa. This next series doesn't seem to have a very outstanding impact thus far beyond any other manga (like FMA, for example, was and will always be above any other shounen).
But, the name of this new manga does intrigue me. I'm not going to count the high school hearts before they flutter and instead see what comes of this.
Looking forward to it.

After seeing this thread... I nearly jumped for joy and then I remembered I was sitting on a high chair in my college basement loungue with ten other people.
Anyway, you never know goldenspines. She may introduce something totally alien to the Normal High Schooler Theme that may make it stand out. I mean, look at Clannad and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. But only time will tell.

Yeah, I'm not too worried about Arakawa screwing this up. Sure, high school as a setting is pretty overused and crap, but I dunno, I think Arakawa will do it right. Jyu-Oh-Sei had a setting much more "unique" than Kure-nai(which used high school), but it's really obvious to people who've seen both shows which was better(hint: not JOS).
Denpateki na Kanojo, another anime about a dude in high school is probably the most terrifying thing I've watched. Without even being a fantasy show it was unlike anything I'd ever seen before and easily a great show, crippled only by lasting only two OVAs.
So while yes, Japan has definitely overused the setting of high school, I have faith in Arakawa to use it excellently.

So, guesses on genre?
I'll go for the long shot and entertain the idea of a shounen romantic comedy.

I'm amazed by Arakawa's ability to draw awesome looking grumpy people.

I know I just mentioned Kure-nai but I'm guessing she's going to go for something supernatural or at least beyond slice of life.

A new Hiromu Arakawa series??? Kyaah!! This sounds SO AWESOME! I really enjoyed Fullmetal Alchemist (still need to finish it though O.O) and I plan to start on Hero Tales. I hope that this gets licensed soon, 'cause I wanna read it!! I love Arakawa's artstyle <333

So, having read the first eleven pages, it appears this is going to be more slice of life than I had guessed.
It's about a farming school, though, so I don't think it will be a normal high school manga.

He has the same design as one of the dudes who was under Roy's command during Ishbal, and part of the group that shows up at the end to help him out.
