Chobits! (Too Girly?)

I`ve been looking for manga scans that have complete status and the only one I could come across was Chobits. Or maybe it was cancelled, I don`t know.

The question is, compared to Fruits basket, is this series more or less feminen?

That will decide if I look into it or not.

Chobits is, I think, less feminine than Fruits Basket.

And it is complete. I rather enjoyed the series. It has what could be considered fanservice but no nudity that I recall.

EDIT: Wait, yes, there is indeed nudity. Not sure why I can't remember it, but go figure.

Chobit is. . . more about fanservice that Furuba, IMHO. To say whether it is more or less feminine is hard, though. Personally, while Furuba technically is qualified as a Shoujo manga, I consider it to be one of those manga that are so well written that it appeals across the board. Chobits, on the other hand, seems more geared towards a broad audience for different reasons: they try to yank the chain of the males in the audience by adding a lot of unnecessary fanservice with Chii, and they appeal to the girl in the audience with the mushy nature of the plot.

On an unrelated note, I thought I'd just mention that Chobits is licensed by Tokyopop, and, therefore, all scanlations are of atleast a questionable legality (No, please, let's not get into this issue any futher. I'm just trying to give him information so he can make his own decision.)

(Okay, MF, no more talk about that then).

Was the series completed with 7 volumes?

Chobits is technically a Shounen Ecchi. Like Love Hina, its got themes that may appeal to girls, but also lots of sexual scenes (VERY bad ones), and the characters are more...stale. I myself concider it brainless and overrated, but its very popular. If you like things like NEGIMA, Love Hina, Battle Vixans, etcc, you'll like this

no, 8 volumes

and i want to echo the people who said it was pretty full of fanservice. It's 16+ for a reason.

The manga has quite a bit of nudity (Steeltemplar recalls wrong :P), and a lot of panty-shots and the like. Combined with Hideki's immense love of porn, and an on/off switch that's in an...inconvenient place, this manga definitely earns its 16+ rating.

I enjoyed it, but it's certainly not for those under the age limit.

Ironically, the manga was done by CLAMP which is (or at least was the last time I checked) a group of women doing manga. It had a lot of detailed nudity while similar fanservice manga done by men in the same period were not so extreme. I remember thinking at the time that CLAMP looked like it was trying to pander to their male audiences by making it more detailed and gratuitous than the competition. It was unnecessary and I think detracted from the story.

Girly isn't the word I would use to describe it.

It's a seinen fanservice manga basically.

I quite like it^^ Probably the "worst" series of anime/manga that I would ever buy (although I have seen Elfen Lied, something I wouldn't want to actually ADD to my collection^^)

And yes, it is meant to be seinen ("older teen guys"). Serialized in one of their magazines, just can't remember which. Although I heard somewhere that the mag said that women quite prefered the series too. As a sci-fi/drama/romance I enjoy it. But yes... bad stuff in it too :/

Personaly I just got done the manga and YES it's full of fanservice. BUT I do think it has an interesting plot, which appeals to me for more personal reasons. Looking past the fanservice, though it may be hard, it's really pretty good. Yes.....it is girly (duh it's created by an all female team )XD but the fanservice probably would make it appeal to heathen males as well *rolls eyes*. If anyone here has trouble with lusting, males especially, then I suggest you stay away from it. But otherwise it's good.
