The Devil Does Exist (good or bad manga?)

I'm always looking for new manga, and lately I've been reading some of the titles in Shoujo Beat. (Yes, I know there was a thread on this, and yes, there are certain titles which it should be obvious that I'm avoiding.) One of the titles that keeps me reading the magazine is Crimson Hero, which is unusual because I generally don't like sports manga. I want to read more manga by the same author (Mitsuba Takanashi) but the only other one I know of is series called The Devil Does Exist. I heard of it before, but I didn't look it because of the title. Apparently the premise is a highschool troublemaker is about to become the main character's stepbrother and somehow she's developing a crush on him. (Sounds like Marmalade Boy now that I'm reading it back.)

I know that manga and anime titles typically have little if anything to do with the actual plot of the manga, but I'm still wary. I know in a worse-case scenario I spend $10 on a book I find horribly offensive and end up donating it to my anime club library. (I've done it before.) But if anyone has advice on this series one way or the other or knows of other works by Mitsuba Takanashi that are out in English, let me know. Thanks.

I think you should take a chance on it. It doesn't sound like manga has anything to do with the devil. It will probably turn out to be awesome! ^_^

No problems. Looks to me like its a romance manga of sorts. The only thing you may have to watch out for are sexual references.

I've read this manga and there is pretty much NOTHING offensive in it. The only rason its called "The Devil Does Exist" is because certain people that don't like the main male character call him the 'devil'.

Ever read/watched Kodocha, where they call Akito a demon-child? Same thing.

And its actually a really sweet story. The main girl does end up liking the 'devil' boy, and it just turns out he's about to become her stepbrother. There are a lot of people giving her problems about it too.

In my opnion, its really worth the read and there was nothing I found offensive.

Thanks for the reviews. I did pick up the first volume, and I kinda liked it. I think there's better character development in Crimson Hero, but from what I understand, The Devil Does Exist was her first running series, so for that, it's pretty good. (I did think that Takeru completely reminded me of Yushin from CH. I think she must've liked his character and used him again. ^_^) Sexual references weren't many that I saw, at least in volume 1. Fushigi Yuugi probably had more.

"Akuma" is just what the main character calls the "Hide Esque" young man she ends up falling in love with. In English, "Akuma", is a sort of Devil..hence the title.

Its not as good as the manga-ka's other work, but its a good read for a shoujo fan

Im from America, but you should probably ask a parent to get it online. Several ffriends tell me its a bit harder to get manga in ol' Brit, because Y'all haven't licensed as many things as us.
