Japanese Title : Full Moon wo Sagashite

Genre listing: Romance/Fantasy

1. Rank: 8/10
2. Suitable for ages 15 and up.

3. Violence: 4/10 -
You couldn’t really do this anime without suicide. Three of the main characters of this manga are shinigami, or angels of death. It is the punishment for throwing away your life. In other words, they are what they are because they killed themselves. The manga goes back and shows how each of them died, but it never gets very graphic. Other than that, the only blood is when Takuto cuts himself to help Mitsuki.

4. Objectionable Language: 4/10 - Takuto says the d-word whenever he’s mad, which is pretty much all the time. Other characters cuss from time to time too, but it’s mostly just the d-word.
5. Nudity: 2/10 - Mitsuki is shown nude a few times, but she’s always covered by ribbons or her hair.

6. Sexual Situations: 6/10 - Lots of forced kisses. As in, the person getting kissed doesn’t WANT to be kissed. Probably the worst thing is a thing where a friend of Meroko’s is shown in bed with a guy and she is trying to push him away. Other than that, there are a few suggestive comments, and it is implied that one of the characters is having an affair.
It’s also notable that, at one point in the manga, a guy lies on top of a girl when she is in bed and it looks like he’s going to do something bad but he doesn’t. All he does is whisper some in the girl’s ear.

7. Objectionable Religious Material: 5/10 - While the concept of a person who commits suicide becoming an angel who takes the spirits of dead people is obviously not Christian, the author is clearly not trying to change your religion either. It’s like Harry Potter, only read it if you’re not going to take it too seriously.

Plot: Mitsuki promised to Eichi, before he moved to America, that she would become a singer. There are only 2 major problems; she has throat cancer and her grandmother hates music, blaming it for the death of Mitsuki’s mother. When two shinigami, Meroko and Takuto, come through her bedroom wall and tell her she only has a year to live, she figures she’d better stop waiting around for things to work out. However, the shinigami aren’t very interested in the fulfilling of Mitsuki’s dream. They came to the human world for a different reason – to find out who was going to try to stop Mitsuki’s death.

Additional Comments: A beautiful, yet very sad story. It has some really cute parts, but this isn’t the sugary manga it comes off as in the first few chapters. As the story progresses, it gets darker and darker, because you start to see pieces of the characters depressing pasts.

Unfortunately, this manga is currently only available in the original Japanese version, or in scanlations. If you’re okay with using scanlations, PM me and I’ll try to hook you up with some sites.

One quick thing to note--Coby did indeed ask me for permission for this, and I screened her review before allowing it to be posted. If you'd like to post your own manga reviews, please do the same--otherwise if we find a review that has not been approved, we will delete it without warning.
