Postby Shao Feng-Li » Thu Jun 22, 2006 10:40 am

I just ordered Rurouni Kenshin 28! I'm such a bad fan for not having number 27 though. - Why do thy come out way before the date?

I can't answer that question with complete certainty, but I believe I do have a partial answer. Based on shipping times (as well as how long it takes individual stores to stock new items) there can be a fair difference between the time that two separate stores have the volume on their shelves.

However, they have to give a national release date. No one would be happy if the date of release came and the volumes were not available, so they error on the other side, ensuring that by the actual date it can be purchased. Many magazines use a similar technique, dating their issues with a date that is actually several days in the future at the time of printing.

Ah, don't feel like a bad fan. XD I've still gotta get 26 and 27, *has no money* and then 28. T_T Hopefully, I'll be able to do so while I'm on vacation at the end of this month. I can't believe it's almost over, though! :O It feels like I just started reading them yesterday!

I thought the last chapter was the best. Yahiko became such a cool character in the end.

I do somewhat like Yahiko's progression as well. However, I post mainly to say that you may be interested in the fact that Nobuhiro Watsuki recently did a short manga based on his character (likely some time after the end of Rurouni Kenshin). I don't have that solid of information on it, but I believe it is going to be in an upcoming Shonen Jump, both American and Japanese.

Are you talking about Yahiko no Sakabatou? I've yet to actually read it, though I did find scans a while ago. I didn't read it, though, because I didn't want to spoil anything. XD

Yes, that is the title. I haven't bothered to find scans because I'll be reading about this time next month anyway.

I was really hoping that they would have included Yahiko no Sakabato in Vol 28, but instead we get Meteor Strike and a Buso Renkin preview.

Meteor Strike? What is that? It's too bad they're not releasing YnS in 28...Do you know if it'll be released at all?

It was this very different story about a meteor that came and fell on this boy's head. It ended up getting lodged in there and it gave him powers. Yeah.. If my post came out 2nd and Rzion poted the same thing im sorry.

UC mentioned this, but the YnS oneshot will be released in the September issue of American Shonen Jump. So you can catch it there, if you want...

I am not completely certain, but I don't believe YnS was ever released in the Japanese tankoban either. It ran in WSJ shortly after Kenshin finished.

It's the Japanese term that generally refers to novel-sized trade paperback graphic novels.

For anyone who is curious about 28, I just finished reading it...
To be honest, I think I spoiled myself with the fight with Enishi by watching reflections. There are bits that are in the manga and not in the movie that I liked, but I think the movie's version is a bit more touching. I don't know, but something just seemed lacking in the whole final conflict with Enishi.

The departure of all those we have grown to love was sad, in a way, but I'm glad to see they all went on with their own lives. Also loved the part where Cho said he was bored of being a spy and was going to see what he could steal from the police and sell.

The 15th year of Meiji...Yahiko looks awesome (love the Aku on his back) and Tsubame is quite cute in her European outfit. I wish Watsuki had included Kenshin and Kaoru's wedding, but I was glad to see the happy family here in the end. It was also great to see the Kamiya dojo with quite a few new students (such as Sano's brother Ota and Shinichi, the officer 5th grade from the fight with Kujiranami).

All in all, I'm sad to see the series end and enjoyed taking in this last chapter in one of my favorite manga series. Can't wait til YnS comes out.
If you wanted to see Kenshin and Kaoru's wedding, it is included in the director's cut of Reflections.
