Ladies Of Rock: Metal Edition

So, I've been collecting a list of awesome metal bands fronted by a lady, add to it if you can.

So far, I've got:

Nightwish
Within Temptation
The Gathering

I'm not including Flyleaf or Lacuna Coil, because they are alt rock and Industrial respectively. And no Evanescense, because they are Industrial/Alt lite comparitively.

So, Metal bands fronted by a girl? Anybody?

Yeah, I know, right? But it's true!

Edit: Alittle misogynist humor never hurt anyone, rite? Rite?

For some reason... I can't help but think of Dethklok at a time like this.... what if Nathan Explosion was.... like, Nell Explosion? o.O

I would also make a DragonForce comment here, but they all already look like women :3

(note, I like DF. Don't give me a hard time for makin' fun of 'em)

Are any of those bands labled "christian", or at least have clean lyrics? Female fronted metal music sounds awesome......as long as the lyrics are clean.

Also, I have heard that the band labled "The plague, the plague, the plague" is a female fronted metal band. Haven't been able to verify that though, information concerning them seems to be pretty elusive on the net.

Aghora

Their lyrics reflect flaky Eastern mysticism but are otherwise unobjectionable.

I just listened to Within Temptation on purevolume. I must say that I am very impressed. Is this band christian? Their lyrics seem to suggest some type of religous leaning, as they mention "Sanctus Espiritus" (Holy Sprit) in one of their songs. Also does anyone have an opinion on which cd would be better to get: "The Heart of Everything" or "The Silent Force"? Thanks.

Lacuna Coil... industrial?

That's a new one. I've only seen them described as goth metal, including by Cristina Scabbia herself.

I'm still thinking that this whole "awesome bands fronted by women" thing is a scam perpetrated by the FBI.

Lacuna Coil and Evanescence are not industrial. I would say that Coil should be on your list...

Within Temptation and and Nightwish are a few of my top favs as well...

some others:

Theatre of Tragedy (both old and new singer are good but I prefer their older stuff)
Sirenia (Switched front singers too but both are very good. Love their stuff)
Epica (bit to opera for me but when Im in the mood, its nice)
EdenBridge (similar to Nightwish IMO)
Leaves' Eyes
Draconian

As far as I know all the bands listed have clean lyrics. Not sure about Epica I don't listen to their stuff too often but the rest are pretty decent. THeatre of Tragedy had a nude lady on the cover of one of their albums and their older stuff is a bit darker than the rest listed but I don't think I've come across anything real objectional in their lyrics.

Within Temptation isn't Christian as far as I know but they're clean (some of their lyrics speak of mother earth and theres even a song about mother earth but its not really bad. Really just a song about nature) :D

Sirenia
Elis
Peccatum
Still Breathing
Sins of Thy Beloved
Battlelore (not exactly female-fronted...it's a combined effort of male and female)
On Thorns I Lay
Midnastol (i think thats how you spell it)

Fountain of Tears

A pretty cool christian, melodic rock, female vocalled (is that a word?) band. They use a bit more synth and piano then most edgier bands that I listen too. They are on myspace.

EDIT: They have not actually labled themselves as "Christian". They are instead a "positive metal band". The lyrics that I have read are clean, however.

The Dreamside plays excellent Gothic metal, although much like many bands in the Gothic genre, they lean towards atheism. I find it interesting that so many of the bands mentioned so far are Gothic Metal (merely one branch of the insanely diverse Gothic genre) or draw a fair amount of influence from it. Why aren't there more female vocalists in other branches of Metal?
