Rise Against =/= Old school (no offense). Bad Religion. Pennywise. Lagwagon. NOFX. These bands are old school XD

I'm a huge punk fan, ranging from pop punk, 80's hardcore, posthardcore punk, everything.

Some of my favorites (in no specific order):
Bad Religion, Pennywise, Refused, The Hives, The Offspring, Sum 41, and Turbonegro (I reccomend that NO ONE on this site listen to Turbonegro. Just a warning). I have much more in my library, but these are my favorites =D

Rise Against is okay. IS okay. They WERE really good. New stuff remains inferior for must bands.

Blink 182 is punk. Popish Punk, but punk nonetheless.

That doesn't mean I like them.

Rise against your right compared to there album before siren songs they are only decent. Siren Song for the counter culture was "meh" and There newest album i really good but still inferior for there other album. If there newest album came out first it would be spectacular. And Tom are you going on what you've heard on there myspace? If so then don't they don't have to much of the there good songs on myspace.

My favorite song that I've heard from Rise Against is "Give it All."

I heard Rise Against's Purevolume. http://www.purevolume.com/riseagainst

There are like 10 songs from their newest album.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: HOLY CRAP! They took out like 8 songs. There was a huge list on Rise Against's Purevolume and now it's tiny. not only do they not have 10 of their songs, but the songs are only samples. "Ready to Fall" is only a minute long. Talk about a complete change.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've heard their entire new CD. It was a fun CD, but compared to their new stuff it was nothing special.

Vernhal, there will be no discussion of Hawk Nelson in the Punkerz United.
(Just kidding, however, I REALLY hate Hawk Nelson. My opinion though.)

Everdred12a, I just got one thing to say to you that probably only you will get.

"All my friends are Dead."

EDIT: Grub, I meant it was nothing special compared to their old stuff.

They got kicked in the head, all my friends are dead.

Tom. I love you.

Squad Five-O, Ace Troubleshooter, The Blood Brothers, The Blamed, Showbread, Refused, and Say Anything are some of my favorite punk bands. Old Relient K, too, if they count, but they're more pop-rock.

Showbread? Punk? Huh?

Punk elements are visible in their older stuff, but I would by no means label them a punk band. Raw Rock if anything.

:) Relient K :)
-Hawk Nelson-
-FM Static-
-All American Rejects-(though i've only heard one song)
-Nate Sallie (older but i remember there was one really good song by NS)

Is it just me or does "Role Remodeling" sound like a good version of a Hawk Nelson thing?

Tom Dincht wrote:Showbread? Punk? Huh?

They are a punk band. Showbread draws heavily from the styles of Refuse and The International Noise Conspriacy. Showbread would really qualify as posthardcore punk. They draw on the elements of hardcore, but mix it with punk stylings. In fact, Showbread's biggest influences are Refused and The International Noise Conspiracy. According to Kkun, they've even played covers of 'New Noise' (the most well-known song by Refused) live.

While I'm thinking about it, I'd like to add another band to my 'favorite punk bands' list, and that would be the Lostprophets. Their punk roots aren't as visible in their more recent work, but I would list Thefakesoundofprogress as one of the must-own punk albums, along with The Shape of Punk To Come by Refused, Bad Religion's 'big three' (Suffer, No Control, and Against The Grain) and Pennywise's self-titled album.

Well, I suppose if you say so, I will add Showbread to my list of punk faves if that's the case.

Yeah, Showbread is totally punk rock.

Also, I totally forgot about Lostprophets. Fake Sound of Progress forever.

Kkun wrote:Also, I totally forgot about Lostprophets. Fake Sound of Progress forever.

Not as difficult as you may think. It's becoming harder to associate Lostprophets with punk, especially since they've moved more towards a mainstream rock sound. Honestly, it's hard to label some of their newer stuff... some of it has a good FSOP feel to it, but alot of it has some heavily emo-ish lyrics. Once again, the Lostprophets have promised the next album to be more like FSOP, but they promised the same thing with this album. Given, they're trying to fuse the FSOP sound with the mainstream success they met with Start Something, but I really want an album that sounds like FSOP.

Last Tuesday isn't bad. Add Thursday and Saves the Day to my list, as well. I love those bands. Especially old Thursday, like their 2003 album War All the Time. It's perfect from start to finish.

Would you guys consider Billy Talent punk?
I've only heard "Red Flag" and "The Devil in the Midnight Mass".
I heard they're emo, but I disagree.

I find "Red Flag" very punkish.
