What are your favorite one-hit wonders?
Here are some of mine:
- "Send Me an Angel"--Real Life (very haunting)
- "Spirit in the Sky"--Norman Greenbaum
- "You Only Get What You Give"--The New Radicals
- "Groove is in the Heart"--Deeee-Lite (they lost their way on their second album, though)

Everything You Want - Vertical Horizon (I'm pretty sure this is a one hit wonder, I've never heard anything else by them)

-"You Only Get What You Give"-New Radicals
-"99 Luftballons"-Nena
-"Closing Time"-Semisonic(is that considered a one-hit wonder?)
-"Somebody's Watching Me"-Rockwell

Story of a Girl - Nine Days
Two Princes - Spin Doctors
Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve
I'm not sure that the Verve really counts, since I believe they continued to be fairly big in Europe. But I haven't seen any chart action over here in North America ever since :/

The Spin Doctors have quite a few hits, btw. So, they don't count.

Oh, Bittersweet Symphony! I love that song too! I loved how it was used in the movie "Cruel Intentions".

That was a one-hit wonder? Yes... it is a classic (ever since I saw Bio Dome that is^^) Hmm... I know on tv there's a show often on called "One-Hit Wonders" and seen it a couples times, but I'm always suprised with what was a one-hit and songs I thought were a one-hit actually had other hits :/

I think that Men Without Hats had a second but much lesser hit with "Pop Goes The World". Nothing really reached the level of "Safety Dance" from what I can see on
All Music Guide.
I am reminded of a humorous quote:
"You know, that dance wasn't as safe as they said it was..." - Fry from Futurama

They also had a top 20 hit with "Someday We'll Know".
KBMaster wrote:Everything You Want - Vertical Horizon (I'm pretty sure this is a one hit wonder, I've never heard anything else by them)
"You're a God", and to a lesser extent, "I'm Still Here" were also hits.

They're still huge in Germany.

Sweet Dreams (are made of this)- Eurythmics
Down Under- Men at Work
Flashdance! What a Feeling- Irene Cara (yes I know she had Fame too so shes a two hit wonder but still)
Some Like it Hot- Power Station
Barbie Girl- Aqua (what?)
Yes I love good ol cheesy 80s pop music
Lots of good one hit wonders in the 80s. Aqua isn't 80s but Barbie Girl is very 80ish.

Given your age, I understand how you might not have realized this, however, Nirvana was decidedly not a one-hit wonder band. They were easily the most popular and influential grunge band of the early 90's. And they still have a following now.
Though "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is indeed an awesome song

Except for Aqua, everyone on your list is not a one-hit wonder. Sorry.

Actually... well I know I said Irene Cara wasn't but she was close enough. She was a two hit wonder along with Power Station. Although Power Stations second hit was just a cover so that doesn't count. So close enough...
Or do we need a thread for two hit wonders?
(and if you say either of those are not a two hit wonder...
)
Men at Work... forgot about Who Can it Be Now and Overkill. And yea really the Eurythmics arent really a one hit wonder at all and I was gonna take em off but whatever. They are a one hit wonder IMO though since that was the only song I liked of theirs

I'm pretty sure they had other hits too... I'm sure I saw a scene from some music videos like Dr. Jones and Cartoon Heros. And well, Cartoon Heros also shows up on DDR so it must be a hit of some kind^^
