I don't believe that the kind of music I like fits under any kind of category at all.
Hint: Listen to the music on my site (
The BASIC FAQs, on the
Melodies of Heaven page) for an idea of what kind of music I like.

Overall, I like metal but I do like a vast majority of music.
Metal-wise though I like the following: death, chaos-core, brutal, black, goth, techno, battle, techno, trash, speed, viking (nordic), symphonic death metal, symphonic black metal, metalcore, winter metal, Tolkein metal, and fantasy metal.

I'm kind of irritated that modern rock and classic rock were put together.
*does NOT like modern rock*

I put electronic, but it was a hard choice because I like just about everything. Except country and rap,

I don't even know what the difference is with half of the metal genre's...And how metal is a lot different from hardcore...I never bothered finding out.

I like stuff from pretty much every category up there, but if I look at the bands I listen to the absolute most, I'd have to say that
Indie/emo and r&b are my top favorites, but I like Indie/emo most, so I voted for other.

Man I can't just pick one genre as a fave like that, but since I gotta, I'll just go with Rock since it's a nice happy median. I like basically everything up there though. *but country*

Here's a list I made up
http://crystalshores.bravehost.com/metal.txt
Metalcore, as opposed to some other metal, contains more breakdowns then most. Plus it has a more...chugga-wugga feel with the guitar.

I mostly listen to nu metal (Linkin Park), J-pop, J-rock and classical music, but I like anything that sounds good
.
Question for Hitokiri: What is winter metal? Just curious seeing that it wasn't on your list.

Just as you think, winter metal basically uses winter themede lyrics and maybe evebn instruments to further replicate the sound of an icy enviroment.
It is a very small sub-genre of Death and Goth metal with only a few bands that I know of (one of them being Immortal Souls, one o fmy favs).
Taken from Immortal Souls ""Ice Upon the Night"

I think I get what your saying now Hitokiri. Thanks. Oh yeah....Would you consider Savour Machine "goth metal?"

Well kaemmerite i'm sorry, i didn't mean to upset anybody. I put them both together because they are both rock, and i wasn't going to make a whole nother choice for that.
(Tolkien Metal?)Sounds interesting....
Anyway sorry to anybody else;i guess it is hard to choose one when you like e'm all. And yes Immortal Souls rock. Thats alot of Metal genres there Hitokiri, most of which ive never heard of. I just put the main ones that i knew.

Thats a pretty sweet list of Metal genre definitions Hitokiri. I can't beleive there are bands that just sing about the Lord of the Rings books and stuff!

I'm not a genre person. I'm more of a band/song person.

They would proably be a mix between Christian Goth/Opera Metal with some influence on Scandenevian Goth/Doom Metal. As well, thier lyrics can be classified as Apocolyptic.
xCAFx wrote:(Tolkien Metal?)Sounds interesting....
Try searching for Blind Gaurdian, Isengard, and Summoning - they are pretty good examples of Tolkien Metal.

Most of the time, most bands tries to make up a genre just to different, so that's why you have hoards of sub-genres and sub-sub genres which at times may include one or two bands.

I was forced to vote other, because they had no classical or showtunes catagories

I don't know why I didn't think of this in my first post... ^_^;
I guess the best way to put it is that I'll listen to anything that doesn't sound as though the instruments or the singers' voices are being murdered.

Since the metal catagory covers all forms, it gets my vote. I listen to just about everything, but betal has always been a favorite.
That is a pretty impressive list Hitokiri, the only improvement I can think of is some more examples for people trying to compare bands.
Also, add my name to the list of Immortal Souls fans. Those guys rip.

True Modern rock is very good. They just don't play it on the radio much. Green Day, Fallout Boy, Saves the Day, etc. are all emo or pop-punk/pop-rock. They're not true modern rock.
A lot of good modern rock is found in out-of-the-way bands, like The Mayfield Four, Virgo Merlot, Big Wreck, Fuel, and so on. More popular modern rock would be stuff like Velvet Revolver, Alter Bridge, Shinedown (yes; Shinedown), and Incubus.
I like modern rock.

i picked the rap/hip-hop/r&b choice, only for the r&b. im not big on rap at all. next would have to be electronic or rock. i cant pick which would go in second place for me.
