Another example of the decline in music.

For all the music-lovers out there, this is your place to swap lyrics, talk about new bands and jazz about concerts. All things related to the audio world belong here.

Another example of the decline in music.

Yep, it's another thread made by me. (Shatterheart cringes.) Now to the topic.

The American Music Awards are coming on this week. There is not a single non-pop, non-rap, non-country, or non-crappy pop/rock group performing. Rock is being pushed out of today's music and being replaced by infectious growths, such as rap, pop, and country. Rock is being destroyed, by the above mentioned genre's and by the wave of new "rock," such as the new pop/punk and rap/metal groups that are now being labeled as "hardcore rock," instead of crap-rock. I don't mind that jazz and blues are no longer mainstream, mainly because they have had thier day. Jazz and blues are still awesome, but they will probably never be mainstream again. I'm ok with this. sadly. Anyways, rock is slowly downhill. It needs to stop.

Pumkin , mate get over it, the music machine has decided to stuff rock, and so rock is now stuffed. Thats it. Don't watch the show, or listen to comercial radio and go for independent and non-mainstream bands which aren't commercialised and 'manufactured', like linkin park i assume *looking at your sign*

Who cares what the dumb, fat, music label boss's think and do, there will always be a 'resistance' of music which survives in the wings. Almost like Christianity in European today, its "old news" and no-longer mainstream, but its still "good". Know what I mean? You might have to pay some extra $, as christians do aswell (persecution) but its still worth it.

Look overseas aswell, America, by all accounts has been both a great help to music; lots of genres were born there and great bands still emerge now and again, but also its worst enemy in terms of originality (interesting considering America is so caught up in liberty and peronal indentity) and pop and commercialisation etc.

So yeah. I just ignore all the US music shows and 3/4 of "music" produced there, its all about money not music over there, ie the rap/getto/r&b trend currently.

Yeah, it is all about money now. I am not watchin the show, and I don't listen to commercial radio when I can help it. I am forced to listen to a lot of commercial radio though, because I have to ride with other poeple from time to time, who listen to crap.

Why worry about what other people are listening to and just worry about yourself? Taste is subjective. Some people may like what you call "crap" so I don't see what making these posts about the decline of music and rap being the malignant tumor of the music industry and so on and so forth really does. Care to enlighten me on what this really accomplishes?

If its an award show...about current popular music...your shocked that pop music is the main attraction? Of course it is. Its the same with movies, tv, everything. Whatever is popular sells. Just because somthing is talented....does not mean it will get huge.

sadly. It's not that I'm surprised that the music on the awards show sucks, it's more that I'm saddened.

Nothing to be sad about...there is plenty of good music in the world...you just have to look for it. Its easy to find crap...but when you dig around in the "pile" of music so to speak...you can find gems.

I'm glad that good stuff isn't mainstream. I am very possessive of my music, and I hate when they release a single, and then everyone becomes a "fan" solely because of that song. I like bands that not very many people have heard of, partly because it's my own thing, partly because they have good music. I just can't stand 99% of mainstream stuff.

My two bits

As recording costs, artists demands, concert prices for venues and staging, and the availablitly of free music on the 'Net (legal and other wise) continue to grow, the mainstream labels will only pick up artists that a) are so generic and catchy and nonoffensive that they are guaranteed to go platinum and sell out every show or b) already have a multimillion fan base and are guaranteed to go platinum and sell out every show. The bottom line is the bottom line to the records labels, hence the massive influx of "safe" (as a believer, I use that term loosley) pop and country music. Maybe there will be another Nirvana or Metallica (pre-sell out) or Green Day even hair-metal band that will hit and regenerate above ground interest in that which rocks. Until then, support the underground by searching them out (godcore.com has tons of Christian metal, death metal, punk, and harcore bands and some free and legal MP3s as well), if they are on a legal MP3 site(soundclick.com, purevolume.com) , download or stream the tracks and earn them votes, if you have the money buy the CDs, the Tshirts the patches and the stickers. Play them for your friends and introduce them to good music.

Till then, taste is subjective.

I understand what your sayin shatterheart. And spencer, I know what you mean too. Righteousslave, you gotta good point too. Just around where I live, good music is extremeley hard to find. The only places that play good music are bars and such, and I'm not 18 so I can't get in. Finding music is hard too, because one of the only good record stores just sold out and went crappy. The only other good one is extremely far away. I can't download music because my computer sucks, horribly. So now you can see my dillemma.

You may not be able to download music off the net, but if your computer can run winamp or something like it, there's a vast multitude of internet radio stations with all kinds off stuff (heh, even a Spy Music station with purely music that sounds like its out of James Bond films), and usually no commercials either.
