OK I am aware that this is a really really long shot, but has anyone ever heard of Gilbert and Sullivan. they were a real big thing back in the 80's... The 1880's that is. I am a huge fan of their work and would like to shake off that creepy feeling that I am the only one out there.
If you have ever been in, seen or even heard of a gilbert and sullivan play, please respond and comment because i am quite interested.
also severel well known Plays of theirs were, H.M.S Pinifore, The Mikado, and The Pirates of Penzance.
I have been in 5 different productions so far and am going to be in 2 more this year!
I appreciate you giving your time to read this post!

Yes, I am familiar with them. I've seen an outstanding stage production of The Mikado. I am acquainted with some of their more famous musical pieces. A couple years ago, a movie called Topsy-Turvy came out that detailed a lot of the backstage efforts to put together The Mikado. Unfortunately, it did have mature themes and was appropriately rated R. Nevertheless, most of the movie was quite interesting.

I saw a couple parts of Topsy-Turvy. I can't say good things about the content
but the stagings were exceptionally good.
I rather enjoyed the Mikado.

I LOVE GILBERT AND SULLIVAN PLAYS!!!
The Mikado is a personal favorite of mine because it's related to Japan and because it was the first Gilbert and Sullivan play I saw. My Dad is also a big fan and has the entire Gilbert and Sullivan collection on video, so he'll watch one whenever he can. I think I've seen 90% of them now...
We actually have Savoyards at my school, but I haven't gone to any of their events yet. In fact, I didn't even realize that they existed until this year. Must go sometime...

Ah, yes. Topsy Turvy, I did see that one. I did really enjoy it However it does unfortunatly have it's bad moments.
As to the size of the productions, I am in a rather small school so I have had a chance to be a lead in all but one of the plays I have been in. I was the cheif of police in pirates, The foreman in Trial by Jury, The Colonel in Patience, and **** Deadeye in HMS Pinafore. This coming year I will be KoKo in the Mikado, and posibly some part in the Yeomen of the Gaurd! Our shows usually run for four nights, with a full house of about 300 people each night.
My personal favorite is Iolanthe, even though when we did it I was only in the chorus. I also would love to be in Ruddygore and Princess Ida
I have cd's of all the operas

If anyone has seen the new(er, est?) veggie tails, most of it is based on music out of the Mikado... And a really funny Rocky spoof (got my eye on the tiger... bike).

I've seen a performance of the H.M.S Pinifore and sang in the choir for Pirates of Penzance, though I wasn't on stage at all. I, therefore, know all the crazy goofy songs and it is a lot of fun.

For PofP spoofs, you just can't beat Ray Stevens' song "I Want to Sing and Dance".

Allong with a german cd of Pirates I got a neat comercial for cambells soups sung to the tune of the modern major general song! Martyn Green (the guy who did the comic leads at d'oyly carte in the 40s and50s) sings all the different types of cambells soups in 63 seconds!
I love Parodys!

Don't forget Tom Lehrer's "The Elements", the first 103 elements in the periodic chart set to the tune of "Modern Major General".

And of coarse whenever anyone does the Mikado they write their own lyrics to "I have a little list"!

This thread of mine died over a year ago, but I figure, that with a considerable ammount of new members here, I might rehash the subject. Since I first made this thread I have been in two more G&S productions, including the Mikado, in which I played KoKo. So any other ones of you Like G&S?
