Songs That Bring Tears

Whether it be sad or happy tears, music can brings a release from your stress and frustration in songs that make you want to cry a little or bawl your eyes out.

One in particular is this majestic piece, Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings.

I've never been able to find it until just recently. I have it here on Youtube, the link is safe and I'm sure you will love the song as much as I have.

I don't wish to have this a sad depressing thread, just something for others to speak out and possibly share what helps them relax and think, even cry a little bit.

I have made this thread to ask: What songs do you listen to that make you tear up inside?

The closest I've ever come to crying at a song is Oingo Boingo's "Mary". Other than that I just get chills at alot of stuff.....in particular the music surrounding Brunnhilde's Awakening from Siegfried......and many other moments from Wagner's Ring.

Ohhh, there are way too many to list. Maybe I'll slowly list them here over time, as I think of them. For now:

The most depressing song I've ever heard is Gary Jules's version of "Mad World". It usually doesn't bring tears to my eyes physically, but my soul aches and weeps whenever I hear this.

And one of the most happy-beautiful songs I know is "In My Arms" by Plumb. It's about motherhood, and the first time I heard it, I was so overwhelmed by the unconditional, sacrificial love that all our mothers have for us, that it made me cry a lot. I showed this to my mom a year or two ago, and she cried too, saying it was exactly right.

The song that has helped me through times of deep depression, more than any other, has been Bach's "Chaconne". My favorite recording is the one my best friend did, both because I know her and can hear her in the music, but also because hers remains the most heartfelt rendition I've ever heard. On the other songs - The adagio is amazing! I have never heard such a melancholy song on strings alone!

And Wolf's-Howl, I feel you on the song by Plumb, but it's a little harder for me to relate - never really had a mom for most of my life, you know?

Gary Jules has an amazing voice. He almost sounds like Phil Collins.

Fix You by Coldplay amazing.

Wolf's Howl, that song by Plumb is touching, and I can see my mother in that song.

Bach's "Chaconne" to me is like he's saying to the listeners: "We all have sad times. Be strong and fight bitterness with strength, courage and happiness."

Now that I mentioned Phil Collins, one of his songs I love listening to is "You'll Be in my Heart". This piece is my mom all in one. I love it so much.

Well, now that we're talking about Phil Collins, how 'bout this one he did for Disney's Brother Bear? (Spoiler warning for those who haven't seen this amazing movie.) The scene this is found in would have been incredibly emotional and made me cry buckets anyway, but the song added so much more, and it kills me every time and I end up a big goopy mess. Oh, good gracious, yes. lol. This song makes me bawl like a baby.

What was that song about the little boy that wanted to buy a pair of shoes for his mom on Christmas Eve because she was about to die? That one gets me, too. I hate that song. lol. Probably because for I don't even know how many years in a row, someone at my church would sing this song with his little boy at Christmas Eve service...to the point where it just got ridiculous.

Everyone will probably go when I say this one, but "Stay With Me" by Danity Kane often makes me cry. Mainly because I can attribute it to some of my own experiences.

"Praise You in This Storm" by Casting Crowns sometimes makes me feel like crying, because it reminds me to keep trusting God. There was one year where there was a drought where I live and we got a whole lot of water cuts, which made life pretty stressful. So even though I wanted nothing more than a storm, this song helped me put things in perspective. Plus, the bridge was taken from my favorite Psalm of all time.

And then, yes, there's a rap that makes me cry. Lecrae is an awesome lyricist, and his song "Prayin' For You" still brings tears to my eyes sometimes (wow, my eyes got wet just from finding the video!). Very moving words.

"Take Me As I Am" was one of the first songs that convinced me how cool Lecrae is. Such a wonderful song, witnessing to God's unconditional love and mercy. I'm sure we can all relate to this, whether we're "g" or not.

"Will I?" From the movie, RENT, always gets me. Every time I watch it, that scene gets me. We sang it in choir during my senior year of highschool, and only those who had seen the movie (and that wasn't many of us) understood the depth of the emotion in the song, and therefore sang it with intensity. I knew we couldn't watch the entire movie in class, for the obvious reasons, but I pleaded with my director to let us watch that scene. A few days later, she brought in the movie and we watched the scene...and I bawled in class. One of my friends turned to me and was like "Dang girl, you weren't kidding when you said that makes you cry every time." XD It's true, I can't resist.

I was thinking about my best friend while listening to this one time, and now they're forever intertwined in my mind. The words fit her so well, and they bring tears to my eyes when I'm really thinking about them.

(They changed their name to The Age of Information, but it's the same band.) Most people would probably hear this song and think it's just another song about lost love, yawn. But I actually see it more like a song about someone you love who's died. Falling out of love usually means losing the mushy-gushy feelings, but I feel like in this song it means more like how when you love someone (not necessarily romantically), it's like their love is holding you close. And when they die, you're falling out of their arms. I used this for mood music while writing a piece about just such a topic, and it made me cry.

(David Hodges, the singer of Trading Yesterday, now does solo stuff because Trading Yesterday disbanded, unfortunately.) Gaaah, this makes me cry every stinkin' time. x.x It's all because one time while listening to it, I thought about how much I'm going to miss my brother when he goes off to college, and now I can't stop thinking about that when I listen to this song! But it's so beautiful, and I love it.

Mostly cause I think it captures the feeling of having dreams and hopes and letting them go and how you watched them fade away... regrets, wasted time... etc...

To Lose the Sun - sung by Hansi Kursch from Blind Guardian.
This one you really have to listen to the lyrics if this isn't your style of music. I'm not a dad yet, but I ponder the death of others a lot and what it would be like to lose a kid and stuff. The vocals really captures the anguish of a father who's losing their son. Just sitting there picturing the whole thing in your head as the song goes along, it really pulls on my emotions. Excellent song, one of my favorites... Hansi is one of my favorite metal singers.

Fiddler on the Green - By Demons and Wizards... also sung by Hansi
Another story song but just something about car accidents and young life taken to soon that really gets to me and this song deals with both. It's a beautiful song though. About "Death" who mistakenly took a little boy to early and so takes a little girls life in a car accident so the boy wont be lonely. Again, Hansi has his signature screams which really intensifies the anguish the characters are feeling. When it gets to "Take my hand" if I really let it get to me, that's where the tears fall. One of my all time favorite songs as well.

Ode to the Sun - By Dredg.
Again, combination of the vocals and what's going on. I don't think this is one most would think is very sad but like I said, something about death and car accidents really get to me. The vocals are pretty powerful and it's a pretty beautiful description of a car accident.

The Wanderer sung by Johnny Cash... I love this song ^_^ I feel like the wander a lot and this song captures a lot of different feelings... I'm usually cryin by the end Johnny Cash's voice is just perfect for this.

When the Man Comes Around Johnny Cash... I love this song too ^_^. Not sad or anything but I don't know... Great song. Not a huge Johnny Cash fan but the man has some amazing songs IMO. I mean, the ones I like, I REALLY like... gives me goosebumps...

Help Me ... lol... Johnny Cash. I actually just found this one when I was looking for the other two songs but, dang, this song is a keeper!!! Johnny Cash is so genuine too... it doesn't feel fake or forced. And I can so identify with the lyrics. Tearin up just after hearing this one.. This one is going into my Ipod.

Unconditional by Rob Rock. I play this one whenever I'm feeling really bad and need a hug. It's a real hopeful song and sometimes you forget how close God is sometimes and how much he loves ya. This song really helps with that when I'm to lazy to read it in the bible. So yeah, this song really makes me tear up a lot.

I have to say, I virtually never get emotional during movies or songs. However, the one that tends to get me (and just about everyone else that listens to it) is this.

Just watched that today, and that is so sad. I also finally saw/heard 'He stopped loving her today' by George Jones. Quite sad.

But the only song that ever made me actually tear up was 'Sissy's song' by Alan Jackson. I'd had things on my mind, though. I only cried once. Still, all the other times I've heard it, it's still been sad-sounding.

"Lucy" by Skillet often makes me cry. I don't know if this was their intention or not, but it always makes me think of a father whose daughter died when she was a baby. The bridge gets me every time

The first movement of Henryk Gorecki's 3rd Symphony is absolutely the most depressing and tear-jerking song I've ever heard. Unfortunately, I can't find a video where they show my favorite part, which is this huge long buildup in the beginning, before the soloist starts singing. It starts out really really quiet, and slowly builds up this really bleak sound till it's thrumming in the air and you can almost feel the weight of it on your chest. I once made the mistake of listening to it while reading a sad story, and it had me bawling for a long time.
