Songs you've written/heard and meanings

Postby gwenaria » Thu Jul 22, 2004 12:51 pm

Okay, why wasn't I told of this place earlier? *glares at vyse and mutters something about getting him back* I had no clue there was a "Jam Session Forum"! This is so me cause I write song lyrics and I love music!

I especially like Evanescence, and that kind of genre. The speak to me so much, it's unbelivable. So does Enya, Dido, and Jewel. They are fantastic, especially Enya. Her song that she co wrote for the Lord of the Rings soundtrack is pure and awesome.

I've written a couple of songs. But I don't know if I want to post them or not because of two reason. 1. you might steal them, yes you, I'm looking at you aren't I? grrrrrrrrr..... 2. I don't know if they measure up, you know? Like, you may read them and be like "pfft, amatuer."

But if anyone wants to post their own lyrics and say what they mean, and kinda give advice to others. This is focused mainly on the meaning. I don't know if there is a thread already like this, but I would like to focus this on mainly soft rock (like the above artists) and music like Evanescence.

Tee hee, what I like most about Evanescence is that they have their own category. You can't label them, just like me! Tee hee.

okay, to get started, i would like to focus on evanescence's "hello" very deep song, very soft, kinda eerie. here are the lyrics:

*stumbles and trips over junk, trying to find cd, but can't*

okay, to azlyrics.com it is!

*stumbles and trips over internet*

playground school bell rings again
rain clouds come to play again
has no one told you she's not breathing?
hello i'm your mind giving you someone to talk to
hello

if i smile and don't believe
soon i know i'll wake from this dream
don't try to fix me i'm not broken
hello i'm the lie living for you so you can hide
don't cry

suddenly i know i'm not sleeping
hello i'm still here
all that's left of yesterday

first question: who is "she"? that's what i've been wondering for a long time

perhaps the she is amy? (the lead singer of the group)
In my heart's sequestered chambers
Lie truths stripped of poet's gloss...

perhaps, but i think amy, the singer/narator is the mind of the person looking on to "she"

i think maybe "she" is the lover or maybe even kin that amy lee is the mind of, if that makes any sense

what's interesting about his and a lot of her songs is that they are based in a childhood like scenario- playgrounds, fields of "paper" flowers

you wonder if she's trying to get a message of innocence across, or maybe she had a bad childhood

I think "Imaginary" speaks to everyone who has ever been alone and wanted to kinda from a protective shell around themselves

"Monsters calling my name
Let me stay
Where the wind will whisper to me
Where the raindrops
As they’re falling tell a story"

"The nightmare I built my own world to escape"

every emotional, which is why i love this cd "Fallen"

next question: who is the goddess of imaginary light in "Imaginary"?

if anyone wants to discuss another song, or post another question, that's great

Erm...don't hurt me, but I don't think I've heard any songs by them. *cringe* I'm a Sheryl Crow kinda person. I also like the pillows and The Brilliant Green. Very pretty.
That being said, decipher these!

Runner's High ~FLCL Ver.~

Escape from the sinking
Do you see what I mean?
Freedom beats the kingdom
And I saw you in my dream
Think happy thoughts.

this song I wrote. The song is very able to udnerstand and what it's meant for. A message for th ehopeless. It's telling people who are dperessed that thier is a God and He's here to help you. If you're feeling down, he'll pull you up. This son ghelps me when I get fairly depressed.

Message to the Hopeless

Im confused
Confused at this chaos that’s all around me.
I’m dying.
Day by day I can feel me bleeding away.
I told you I’d come home.
But everyday you see me standing alone.
I told you I’d be here.
But everyday you help wipe away my tear.

It’s the downward fall that’s breaking heart.
If only you’d catch me before the fall.
Standing silently and watching me go
And all you did was stare.

Chorus
Somebody said you’d let go.
Somebody said you’d shine through.
Somebody said you’d be here.
Well I’m bout to let go.

I’m distorted
From this new pain that crawls under my skin
I’m craving
For something more than what the world tells me
I told you I’d come home
But every day you see me standing alone
I told you I’d be here
But everyday you help wipe away my tear.

It’s the downward fall that’s breaking my heart.
If only you’d catch me before the fall.
Standing silently and watching me go.
And all you did was stare.

Stumbling in this blinding darkness
Only to see an unattainable light.
Savoring the grace given to me.
Standing firm and I faint.

Chorus x2

If we go, will you be here to see us off
If we stand alone, would you suffer the pain set upon us
If we die, will you be there dig our graves.
If we turn way, would you be there to draw us back.

Crisscrossed at the chest. Breaking apart new life
only to get a fistful of sand.
Born again, replaced with a new heart.
Wandering in a new world full of grace.
The despair in my soul is gone and replaced by You.
Used to be a ghastly image of what I was
and now see the joy I have.

That is the whole song. At least, that's the whole FLCL version. I've never heard the full version. If anyone can figure out what that means, they're a genius. By the pillows, played during the whole "smash Naota unconscience" scene in FLCL.
Think happy thoughts.

thanks a how bunch, I rarely get responses to my writings for some odd reason, any where. Plus when I show my mom, she thinks they sound to depressing.

here's another one. This song is basically talking bout falling from God but realizing that without him you're nothing.

The Place where Dreams Die and Memories Burn
Caught up in this silence
Of Yesterdays news.
Breaking at the point
of Being fed up.
Regretting all the lies that I’ve poured out
and the friends I’ve lost, no good, no good
With my wings I will find a place to stay
A place far away (far away from this world)
Creating a special place deep within my heart
Hiding away from your gaze (I am ashamed)

Chorus
Can you bring me closer to the thing I avoid?
Caught up in this war (a battle of my soul)
I know I’m valued much more than this.
And with You on my side (I am born new)

My heart yearns for
A Better Tomorrow
Tired of the pestilence
That Poisons my mind.
Breaking apart the strings that bound
us together for what seemed forever, no luck, no luck.

With your hand guide me back home.
Holding my bloodstained hands (and my broken bones).
Preparing a special place deep inside your heart.
Gazing deep in your eyes (and seeing who I am).

Reaching out to hold me near
And I cry like a infant
Kissing me on my cheek
Oh how sweet this is
Is this what Heaven will be like?

Hold me now...
------------
Kinda intresting that today was our official band practice...kinda... We had everyone at church after youth group with intrusments and we toyed around with the music and such. I sung about half of Message for the Hopeless while they played and just played around with lyrics and such. Everyone said it sounded good. We also had a udience, some of the oyuth

that's awesome! i use to play occasionally at my church, but the politics at my church have gone south, plus with work and moving, i haven't had a chance to go to church for a while, so

maybe when i move to my college, i'll be able to get involved with their band. i love playing my flute, esp. to the old hymnals

heres a song (one of my top favs) by 38th Parallel called "Wither"

Forward he marches through scornful laughter
Undaunted eyes set on hopes of here after
A gauntlet of piercing stares line his way
And condemning glares say all hate can say
As he strides ever on steps In time with his hearts rhythm and rhyme to the end of his day
Forevers seductive smile shatters sense And bids him acquiesce from this solitary life

|Chorus| But we don’t see, we’ve made ourselves blind And we don’t care, we’ve closed our minds And we don’t move, we’re so paralyzed As we sit in heartlessness watching him die

Dead to immunity, dead to society Fearing the slow decay of dignity the posterchild For walking deadmen longs for the now to be way back when

|Chorus| Whither is a song about a friend of Mark Jennings who died of Aids. It is a call to the world to question how it is we deal with victims of this virus. All to often we either simply condemn the people, or we say "how sad" and then do nothing. The song is a plea to step out of our comfort zones and really love people and try to understand.[/Spoiler]

And I see him everyday along his road
Fading away manifest in the downcast, Recluse and outcast lepers of this age
The innocent incaged by paranoid, misinformed minds
Enter the champions of love (so called) singing loud
Grinning as they spit out their words
So proud are the hearts unmoved by songs and ideals?
Wading through the rhetoric to clutch something real

its a awesome song and her'es the 38th Parallel's views on this song (in spoilers if you wanna figure it out for yourself :)

This is What You Are, by Audioslave.

And when you wanted me
I came to you
And when you wanted someone else
I withdrew
And when you asked for light
I set myself on fire
And if I go far away I know
You'll find another slave

(chorus)
Cause now I'm free from what you want
Now I'm free from what you need
Now I'm free from what you are

And when you wanted blood
I cut my veins
And when you wanted love
I bled myself again
Now that I've had my fill of you
I'll give you up forever
And here I go far away
I know you you'll find another slave

(chorus)
Cause now I'm free from what you want
Now I'm free from what you need
Now I'm free from what you are

Then a vision came to me
When you came along
I gave you everything
But then you wanted more

I love this song, because he can now finally be free from the bondage holdiing him don for so long. I wish I could know how that feels.

one of my favorite songs is "numb" from linkin park. i don't have the lyrics to it but basically it says how he is tired of being what other people want him to be. it's really cool.
 I mourn for those who never knew you
