Steve Taylor

Normally, everyone I know hasn't heard of him. The thought occured to me, however, that since many of you are a good deal older than me, you could be old enough to remember him.

He was a world-wide star, but not one who ever hit the extremely big time. In my opinion, his song writing was years beyond his time. Lots of clever satire about many different things. Have I mentioned he's Christian?

So, anyone heard of him?

Steve Taylor is the KING of Christian satire. I remember back in the 80s when he was the end all (not to mention, pretty much the only cleaver) of Christian Rock! I've gotta go find some of those albums.

Oh, and for those of you who don't know. He wrote most of the lyrics for the song performed by the Newsboys in their early days.

:red: :bang: :hits_self Oops. Dangit, my reading comprehension has finally started swirling down the drain.

I know who Steve Taylor is...he did that song Banner Man. I gave up trying to find that album a long time ago.

Do any of you remember "I blew up the clinic real good?" That song was funny, and even more enjoyable because no one understood what he was trying to say...

That's a bit of the problem with Satire. I've listened to Steve for a long time (since the I Predict 1990 album at least, some before too). I know that Banner Man can be found on his Liver album, but I'm not sure if it's anywhere else (there was a video too).

Steve, while totally cool (and one of the few Christian musicians that had a grasp on the communicate through art rather than with it), he was also not understood by a lot of people (as with the "I Blew Up the Clinic Real Good" song).

The man has always been pure Genius, too bad he's not done much recently (as for his own music that is)....

There is another album he did, though I can't think of the name right off (it's an odd one)... very edgy, done under a different group name (some of the songs appear on the Liver album as well).

My real disapointment is that my collection CD of his wouldn't play the last time I tried it (might have to see if I can read it in the PC and burn me a new copy).

Steve Taylor rocks! My Dad has several of his albums--Meltdown and another one, I think... I've got Squint on a tape--that has "Bannerman" on it as well as the live--someone gave me a copy of the live album, I like the version of "hero" on it. :)

Glad to meet you. Nice to see this thread ressurected; I had predicted it would remain in the archives for quite some time. It is always good to see more Christians who can appreciate excellant, if old, satire.

* meltdown
* on the fritz
* I wanna be a clone
* I predict
* live
* squint

Any of those sound familiar?

BTW: I pretty much have all the lyrics to his stuff memorize, even, let's see... Wow... About 20 years ago or so...

Eep.

I've heard of on the fritz and I wanna be a clone, but I'm not sure if I've actually heard anything off them or just have the album titles stuck in my head from the songbook I've flipped through and album inserts...

How 'bout "Sheilah Waltz?" If her name was mentioned on the album, with the song "Not gonna fall away" that's a different live album.

I really wish I could find some place where I could buy some of Steve Taylor's work. At the moment I just have a single borrowed tape (a compilation, thankfully). Does anyone know an electronic way I could order one? Ebay doesn't count.

Amazon has some listed as special orders, and even though most of the albums are out of stock (from them), they do have links to their affiliates who have used copies for sale.
