Ok, so I'm on my friends livejournal, right? Well, I found this little quiz here that suppossed to help parents to find if their children are 'goth' and therefore 'satanic'. Now I've taken out the results of the quiz but read what it requires to be goth or satanic! Is that not hysterical! I mean, just read it. You'll see what I mean. Some of that stuff can't POSSIBLY be Bible-based, can it? But it IS funny...please comment on what you think of this.

Gothic is a very obscure and often dangerous culture that young teenagers are prone to participating in. The gothic culture leads young, susceptible minds into an imagined world of evil, darkness, and violence. Please seek immediate attention through counselling, prayer, and parental guidance to rid your child of Satan's temptations if five or more of the following are applicable to your child:

Put an X next to things that apply to you, a + next to things that sometimes apply to you and a - by the things that don't apply to you at all.

[]Frequently wears black clothing.
[]Wears band and/or rock t-shirts.
[]Wears excessive black eye makeup, lipstick, or nailpolish.
[]Wears any odd, silver jewelry or symbols. Some of these include: reversed crosses, pentagrams, pentacles, ankhs or various other Satanic worshipping symbols.
[] Shows an interest in piercings or tattoos.
[] Listens to gothic or any other anti-social genres of music. (Marilyn Manson claims to be the Anti-Christ, and publicly speaks against the Lord. Please discard any such albums IMMEDIATELY.)
[]Associates with other people that dress, act or speak eccentrically.
[]Shows a declining interest in wholesome activities, such as: the Bible, prayer, church or sports.
[]Shows an increasing interest in death, vampires, magic, the occult, witchcraft or anything else that involves Satan.
[]Takes drugs.
[]Drinks alcohol.
[]Is suicidal and/or depressed.
[]Cuts, burns or partakes in any other method of self-mutilation.
(This is a Satanic ritual that uses pain to detract from the light of God and His love. Please seek immediate attention for this at your local mental health center.)
[]Complains of boredom.
[]Sleeps too excessively or too little.
[]Is excessively awake during the night.
[]Dislikes sunlight or any other form of light. (This pertains to vampires promoting the idea that His light is of no use.)
[]Demands an unusual amount of privacy.
[]Spends large amounts of time alone.
[]Requests time alone and quietness. (This is so that your chid may speak to evil sprits through meditation.)
[]Insists on spending time with friends while unaccompanied by an adult.
[]Disregards authority figures; teachers, priests, nuns and elders are but a few examples of this.
[]Misbehaves at school.
[]Misbehaves at home.
[]Eats excessively or too little.
[]Eats goth-related foods. Count Chocula cereal is an example of this.
[]Drinks blood or expresses an interest in drinking blood. (Vampires believe this is how to attain Satan. This act is very dangerous and should be stopped immediately.)
[]Watches cable television or any other corrupted media sources. (Ask your local church for proper programs that your child may watch.)
[]Plays videos games that contains violence or role-playing nature.
[]Uses the internet excessively and frequently makes time for the computer.
[]Makes Satanic symbols and/or violently shakes head to music.
[]Dances to music in a provocative or sexual manner.
[]Is homosexual and/or bisexual.
[]Pursues dangerous cult religions. Such include: Satanism, Scientology, Philosophy, Paganism, Wicca, Hinduism and Buddhism.
[]Wears pins, stickers or anything else that contains these various phrases: "I'm so gothic, I'm dead", "Woe is me", or "I'm a goth".
[]Claims to be a goth.

If five or more of these apply to your child, please intervene immediately. The gothic culture is dangerous and Satan thrives within it. If any of these problems persist, enlist your child into your local mental health center.

Ok, so I can see their point in SOME things but surely not ALL of the pertains to goth or satanism at all! I took the quiz and definately got more than five mostly b/c I like to be alone, I dress like a punk rocker, I like rock music, and I sleep in alot! Come on! Isn't this just a little overdone? Comments please!

I agree entirely with what you said, Angel - some of the activites on that list should be avoided, IE drinking blood, taking drugs, drinking alcohol underage, listening to Marilyn Manson. But I apply to far more that five things on that list, and I sure as heck am not "goth" or a satanist, or an occultist!

This is just an example of someone being "holier than thou art." :shake:

Nothing's wrong with dressing punk! I just got back from an AWESOME camp. The praise and worship was phenomenal and a group of (very nice) skater punks were into the worship with all their hearts. Its all in the attitude.

Edit: and yes a few of those made me crack up. Eating that cereal sure is gothic! Omigosh we have cable tv! SAVE YOUR CHILD!!!! SAVE HIIIM!!!! SHUN ALL TECHNOLOGY!!!! lol jk Yes there is bad stuff out there, but we just have to show discernment.

I apply to over half those and I am quite secure in myself, thanks.

Some of those are incrediably stupid...
[]Sleeps too excessively or too little.

Hello! We're TEENS! We stay up half the night and sleep in 'till twelve, that's NORMAL! Some poor kid is going to have to beat off his/her parents convinced he/she is a goth.

I'll admit that some of those apply though.

I must agree with you, Daisuke. Some of the things on there should be avioded.
A lot of the things listed apply to me:
[]Frequently wears black clothing. (my fave color]Shows an increasing interest in death, vampires (I've allways loved ghost stories and mythical things. I also like death type things. Like CSI shows)
[]Complains of boredom. (you have got to be kidding me....)
[]Sleeps too excessively or too little.
[]Is excessively awake during the night. (this is due to my schedule. I hafta stay up late to do homework and I can't sleep very well due to my lower back pains)
[]Spends large amounts of time alone. (I prefer being alone. I can do what I need to do or what I want to do. Watch tv, play games, listen to music, etc.)
[]Requests time alone and quietness. (yet again, due to my schooling. If I need to study, which is all the time, I don't want people disturbing me)
[]Watches cable television or any other corrupted media sources....(yet again, kidding right? We live in a place where you can only get tv by cable!)
[]Plays videos games that contains violence or role-playing nature. (Castlevania, FF 7, etc.)
[]Uses the internet excessively and frequently makes time for the computer. (hello! all my schooling is online! and I love searching for pics of fave characters)
As you can see, these all pertain to me, yet I am definitely not a goth. it was definitely overdone.

Yeah some of these are problems but I don't see how they necessairly apply to goths. Anyone could have problems self mutalating or drinking or smoking or what not. But over half applied to me too and I am CERTAINLY not satanic! Lol. I like the part where it said we're going to meditate and talk to evil spirits if left alone....lololol...yeah, like that's the first thing on MY mind everytime I try to get some privacy....wow....that's horrid. Their reasoning for some stuff is weird too. I mean I agree some of those things ARE a major problem but I DON'T agree with their reasons why. Like the self-mutilation part. It could be done for MANY reasons, not particularly like that. I would know. It's used as an outlet for emotion or a cry for attention. It's stupid, yeah, but it's not done for the reasons they stated. Correct me if I'm wrong.

[]Insists on spending time with friends while unaccompanied by an adult.

Well, let me tell ya. Part of being a teenager is learning to take care of yourself. This has been going on for ages.

Of course, its always good for an adult to know the location of their child.

Yeah. As was said before some of the items on the list were absolutely ridiculous. Others were reasonable warning signs.
But a lot of it was just crazy. AB-SO-LUTE-LY CRAZY. A lot of these depend on context.

[]Shows an increasing interest in death, vampires, magic, the occult, witchcraft or anything else that involves Satan.

I play the cardgame, Magic: The Gathering. They probably count me as in this category, even though I'm not crazy about darkenss and real magic. *Rolls eyes* Am I obsessed with it? No.
Is it an entertaining hobby that gives me something to do and a way to work on strategy? A whole-hearted yes.

[]Frequently wears black clothing.
I have a pair of black jeans. (Mock gasp) I even have a black shirt! I don't frequently wear them, but since they're nice clothes I like, it has to count as "Frequently." *Rolls eyes* (Deeper mock gasp) But the black shirt has a radiation symbol on it that is reshaped to look like a cross, and it says "Radiate" Below that it says "Be as a light that shines in a dark place" and the corresponding Bible book and verse.

[]Insists on spending time with friends while unaccompanied by an adult.

This is normal behavior and in normal context it's ridiculous to take it as a warning sign. Sometimes me and my friend hang out in my room, or when my mom is out. (Another mock gasp)

[]Eats goth-related foods. Count Chocula cereal is an example of this.
Riiiiiight. And Lucky Charms are the mark of a murderer.
[]Disregards authority figures; teachers, priests, nuns and elders are but a few examples of this.
[]Misbehaves at school.
[]Misbehaves at home.

Hey. We all get out of line sometimes. Unless it's in a goth-related nature, it's not a goth-related problem.

[]Drinks blood or expresses an interest in drinking blood. (Vampires believe this is how to attain Satan. This act is very dangerous and should be stopped immediately.)

*Sucks on a small cut on his finger* Again, CONTEXT, PEOPLE, CONTEXT!

[]Plays videos games that contains violence or role-playing nature.

Context, context, and context! If they take it seriously, it's a concern that needs to be dealt with. If it's a game, it's a game. 'Nuff said on that one.

[]Claims to be a goth.

Perhaps the only thing on the list that is a warning sign 99% of the time...

[]Watches cable television or any other corrupted media sources. (Ask your local church for proper programs that your child may watch.)

Spongebob is leading me into the darkness! Aiiieee! It burns!
Note: MTV are teh s7inkZ0rzz.

[] Listens to gothic or any other anti-social genres of music. (Marilyn Manson claims to be the Anti-Christ, and publicly speaks against the Lord. Please discard any such albums IMMEDIATELY.)

[sarcasm]Yeah! Let's burn all of the heavy-sounding music! Even the Christian rock with a good message[/sarcasm]

[]Associates with other people that dress, act or speak eccentrically.

Keep your kids away from me. I'm a bit of an odd one m'self. :D

I can do more if you provoke me.

Fireproof, I must admit I don't fully agree with everything you just said.

Context, context, and context! If they take it seriously, it's a concern that needs to be dealt with. If it's a game, it's a game. 'Nuff said on that one.
I still do not agree with play any M rated games just because it puts thoughts in your head that quite frankly don't need to be there. Whether you take it seriously or not.

[]Drinks blood or expresses an interest in drinking blood. (Vampires believe this is how to attain Satan. This act is very dangerous and should be stopped immediately.)

*Sucks on a small cut on his finger* Again, CONTEXT, PEOPLE, CONTEXT!
They did give a context though. O_o

[]Shows an increasing interest in death, vampires, magic, the occult, witchcraft or anything else that involves Satan.

But it is possible to live without those card games. They aren't the only ones out there to play.

lolololol

I like the gothic clothing style, for example the 'gothic lolita' style found in Japan and the not-overbearing stuff in Hot Topic. I would dress like a mild goth if I could, but if I ever painted my fingernails black my mom would have a heart attack.

p.s. Count Chocula is 3vil....-_^

Cobalt Angel, you entire post was truthery. 101% truthery. I just get steamed at the stupid ones soemtimes and don't pay attention to what I say. :D As for Magic: The Gathering, I know there are others out there. I'm plenty willing to try them, but Magic is just my favorite so far. Give me a game, I'll buy a starter, adn I'll give it a shot. I'm not closed-minded.

This is so off-the-wall its scary. I sure hope no parents actually call the mental institution on their kids. I know so many teens whom you could answer at least five of those with a yes, my son is included. Where did you get this?

Fireproof, I like your answers. LOL My nephew is very into The Magic and its just another game for him. Also, Halo is an M game that I've never seen a problem with my son playing. I'd guess quite a few guys here play Halo.

Some of that test was just so weird. I feel sorry for the teens who have some crazy parent that would turn that quiz against them.

Hmmm, Count Chocula - gonna go buy some. ^__^

EDIT: Actually the last question, where you should ask your kid if they're a Goth is where the parent should start in the first place. Just ask your kid. Communication is the key.

LOL I can't believe they think they created an actual test. This in itself is one big joke.

I mean really either all the questions are insanely stupid such as...

[]Associates with other people that dress, act or speak eccentrically.
[]Complains of boredom.
[]Sleeps too excessively or too little.
[]Is excessively awake during the night.
[]Demands an unusual amount of privacy.
[]Requests time alone and quietness. (This is so that your chid may speak to evil sprits through meditation.)
[]Insists on spending time with friends while unaccompanied by an adult.
[]Plays videos games that contains violence or role-playing nature.
[]Uses the internet excessively and frequently makes time for the computer.
[]Eats goth-related foods. Count Chocula cereal is an example of this.

[]Watches cable television or any other corrupted media sources. (Ask your local church for proper programs that your child may watch.)
[]Wears pins, stickers or anything else that contains these various phrases: "I'm so gothic, I'm dead", "Woe is me", or "I'm a goth".
[]Claims to be a goth.

Or they're in the no sh*t category...

[]Pursues dangerous cult religions. Such include: Satanism, Scientology, Philosophy, Paganism, Wicca, Hinduism and Buddhism.

(Since when is Buddhism dangerous and evil? These people need to learn the tolerance of a Buddhist.)

[]Wears pins, stickers or anything else that contains these various phrases: "I'm so gothic, I'm dead", "Woe is me", or "I'm a goth".
[]Claims to be a goth. (Woah I never would of figured that one out!!!)

This was made by some insecure, prudish, hypocritical, and very overzealous people. The people who made this test are the kind of people who drink themselves to sleep every night, ignore their kids, are very materialistic, and look down on every person who's not the same race, social class, denomination, Catholic, and so on. I apologize if anything I have said offends anyone but this is the kinda stuff that drove me away from religion when I needed their support the most.

Fireproof, y'know whats funny? When I started laughing at the cable TV part spongebob was teh first thing that popped into my head too!

I like to eat chocolatey cereals... I like to spend lots of time on the computer.. I spend lots of time alone, probably because I spend so much time on the computer, I like to watch TV... I have felt depressed at times, and have DEFINITELY complained of boredom, misbehaved at home, etc. (who hasnt?)

so I guess that means I'm 200% satanic right? puhleez...

On a more serious note, I agree with what Angel said about how cutting, alcahol and drugs are often caused by things VERY different than "wanting to block out god's love" or whatever it said. They are all huge problems that need to be dealt with but labeling them as satanic is just stupid. Like you're going to help your kid come out of depression by calling them satanic.

I did know a kid who went goth is search of answers, so these qualifications aren't that funny to me. In reality, it's not a bad gauge considering what I saw. I'll admit, the cereal one probably aught to be chucked, but all in all-- I don't consider it to be that obsurd a test.

Obviously, the point of this test is to introduce completely ignorant parents to behavior which they might not connect to a dangerous live style. I know alot of you think that certain qulifications like "sleeps too much or too little" apply to all teenagers, but they mean EXTREME instances of these habits. My friend for example generall didn't sleep more than two hours a night. Said he just couldn't.

When will these people take responsibility for their actions. When will they realize it is their fault for not paying attention to their child which more than likely drove their children them to drugs, alcohol, promiscuous sex, whatever.

This is what really gets me these days no accountability for anything... People are just always trying to put the blame of their child's behavior on something other than themselves whether it's movies, TV, games, or breakfast foods.

For the love of God stop blaming General Mills and Count Chocula for your child's blood drinking habit!!! ;)

That's not the point here. Equating most of these things with "Goth" for that matter is just ridiculous. Eating too much/little, sleep deprevation, hurting one's self, thoughts of suicide, drugs, alcohol, severely misbehaving , depression, alienating oneself, and the list goes on. These are all obvious signs of a sad and troubled kid not a "Goth". Why would they need a check list to show them their kid is slowly killing himself emotionally, physically, and spiritually? If the parents are really that ignorant to where they can't tell that their kid is having problems after seeing obvious signs like this then they never should of had children. Like I've said in my last posts this was made by parents who want to point the finger at something for their child's behavior and not look at themselves and take responsibilty for it.
