CAA: Christian Anime Alliance

OK so far I've found only 5 cleaN anime shows and 4 or five clean manga. My brother is just dying to be excepted and be allowed to read anime and manga (he's 9 ). If you had to come out and say what the cleanest manga and anime are what would you say? This is just one of my random thought things...

anime:
pokemon, pretty much anything on kid's WB, hamtaro

manga: can't read backwards.
i steer clear.

but to tell you the truth, asking for clean anime is like asking for a funny episode of Friends. hmm

I don't think you will find something that is perfect.

hmmm check the anime and manga fourms... i think there are threads about this. anyways, i'd have to say it's rather subjective, but i'd say trigun anime is fairly clean, a few swears, but nothing too offensive.

fruits basket is a pretty clean manga too, once again, a few swears, i dunno if that bothers you or not.

trigun is rather violent. I know the story and everything, but to people who don't, it's violent.

I like that show. vash is funny. its not that offending to me

Okay, the cleanest manga I've ever read was Saint Tail. There's maybe three D words in the whole series. That's it. It is a little girly though. . .

Um, I'm not much of a "Friends" fan, but I really fail to see the analogy. Are you saying there's alot of clean anime and manga or there's not much at all?

Of the one's I have mentioned earlier the following contain a number of episodes dealing with life lessons:

Each of course would differ from another and it really depends on what lessons or morals you are seeking to get across. If you wish for me to elaborate on any title I would be glad to or you can PM me for information. Or if there is something in particular that you family is looking for in a title, again just let us know. I know there are several here in these forums that can share this type of information.

i'm saying they're aren't very many, because friends is not funny. Don't worry, be proud that you don't watch it. It's a gay show.

If you can find it, I recommend Transformers: The Movie. Only one "d***" and no other language, classic good versus evil, and it's none of that Armada/Energon crap.

Old-school Transformer action. And it has a kicking soundtrack.

Let me add one that was just released a couple weeks ago. Grrl Power is a funny little OAV (only one episode, 25 minute). Very clean and is the first title ever to feature a main character that is deaf/mute using sign language. It's handled very well.

One might be surprised at the amount of good clean anime that is out there.

Oh yeah, another manga that I would probably recommend would be the Pretear manga. If you're really interested, I'll flip through it again for you. It's rated "all". I don't think it has anything in it. BTW, how did you like Fruits Basket?

It seems a little harder to find clean manga, at least for me. Pokemon and Hamtaro are good, as people have said. And I'm sure your sibling would enjoy them! But if you're looking for an anime for yourself, well those aren't quite as good. LOL.

Also, most of the Miyazuki movies are clean. With the exception of Princess Mononke. ^^;;

That is the question... Japan is a shinto and buddhist society. Many of the Buddhist values mirror Christian values, but some are a bit off and some are even diametrically opposed. Any anime made for people older than 7 will likely delve into philosophy, and as a result, ideas that are definately not compatible with Christianity. Many of these end in question marks rather than periods, but that is not always the case. Personally, I think that for children unable to decypher these messages themselves, parents should watch with their kids and discuss these things. Don't let something "sneak in" but instead present it along side the truth, with clear distinctions.

Frankly, the situation in American TV isn't any better. Even in children's shows, philosophies are being presented with exclamation points and I think that these are even more dangerous because the kids are saturated in the ones that are more popular to the American culture (or Canadian or Brittish or Aussie or Kiwi)

As for clean, Grave of the Fireflies has some blood and dead bodies, but it's very clean otherwise. Very slow and sad, but clean... It's also an incredible story that is based on the life of the author though some major facts were changed (for one, the opening didn't happen... He obviously didn't physically die...) perhaps for the sake of symbolism, which it is filled with. I didn't see it pushing any philosophies. It is used by anti-war people a lot, but it doesn't try to push pacifism, but rather shows the realities of what happened, at least concerning those two children. I try to show this movie to everyone I know.

Other than that, most Ghibli films are clean, but they also contain Japanese mythology. Spirits and gods and demons*... If you can view it as what it is, which is pure fantasy (especially considering the creator of most of them, Miyazaki, doesn't believe in those things... He's actually atheistic, but doesn't proactively push that either...) then that should be fine. There are good things carried with the fantasy. Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi aka Spirited Away has a great message about greed, for instance.

* By the way, don't want to get into it, but the words translated as "Demon" in Japanese don't mean the spiritual beings that we call demons, but actually are extraordinary animals and anthropomorphic things that generally antagonize humans in the mythology... Think of "monster" instead of "demon"

Lol, I've had the same problem as your little brother, and I'm a lot older XD *laughs* I can't stand a lot of things, and I don't like seeing any anime or manga that wouldn't be suited for little kids, either... that's why I don't watch much. Aside from a few somewhat-skimpy outfits (really only Shirahime, and she's not in much) I would suggest Angelic Layer for manga. I've loved reading it and it's neat to see the growth in the main character, Misaki, throughout the book. And it has bloodless fighting between little dolls and action and comedy. What else could someone ask for? *hugs her AL mangas* As far as the Angelic Layer anime... just as good, just more slightly-skimpy angels here or there. Stick to the manga if it's a problem.

My friend's avidly obsessed with an anime called Beyblade... I've never seen it so I can't say too much, but she says it's very clean and really funny. The characters are cute ^-^

Oh, DUDE! I HAVE THE BEST, COMPLETELY CLEAN MANGA OUT THERE!!! I EVEN LOVE IT! Gon is this little dinosaur that has all of these amazing adventures around the world and stuff. There are many volumes. Though I think this series is out of print, you can still find them on Ebay or other places online. Search for "Gon" There's no words, but it's extremely detailed and still visually AWESOME!!!

What would be the definition of clean that you would be looking for exactly. Many of us here have different ideas of what is clean or harmful , so some boundrys would be good, such as that list you mentioned.

Some clean anime series I personally like are apparently more obscure ones. "Azumanga Daioh" is pretty clean, but the only thing is that there -are- a couple swear words, and the humor might be better understood by somebody at least a teenager. Also, an anime series that dropped off the face of the world is "Samurai Pizza Cats". The only complaint I have with that series would be the main villain's odd tendencies to crossdress.... Other than that, definitely a great series with pretty oddball humor most can enjoy (if they have a sense of humor... )

Just in mention to what you said about Azumanga Daoih, there is ther phychotic, perverted teacher who's always running around admiring his big busted students. Didn't bother me, but it could bother your or your brother, Shino.

I understand your frustration.
In the anime and manga world, popular and moral just don't seem to mix...much like everything else. I'm sure there are a few titles out there that are nice and clean, but they're difficult to find and don't have as many fans/people that you can share them with...but hey, don't give up. I'm counting on you to find me a good one to watch. ^^
You know, it seems like everyone thinks that a kid can't handle something with a plot. Most of the clean ones are bubble gum. I'm desperate enough to watch Hamtaro right now...well, not that desperate.
Most of the stuff that I'm interested in watching comes with a price tag...

These are ones I have seen in anime, manga, or both. Very cute and clean and have morals such as friendship and loyalty.
