Creepy....

My reaction is a cross between amused, saddened and disgusted. What a terribly seductive drug we have created for ourselves. Dying by entertainment... many die while their bodies continue on, and now someone loses even that.

Wow, that's pretty disturbing. I have to agree with UC. When it gets to the point where people are literally dying from "enjoyment" which is what entertainment revolves around, something has to be wrong.

this is how i think many ppl feel. It just shows how carried away can get while playing video/computer games. still it is creepy... *shiver*

Highly disturbing. My cousin has something of a gaming problem (IMO at least), but .... for someone to DIE from it? geez!

Some people can have seizures from flashy games too, I hear.

Entertainment can be a very dangerous thing...

Poor chap...although he could've died a worse way like dying in a car crash or falling off a building. At least he went doing what he loved most, it's kinda sad--though I know for my sake I never play games THAT much.

I find that really disturbing...I'm a gamer too but I can't play for more than three hours at a time...but 86 straight hours? I suppose the lesson from this is moderation...

Yes, imagine being that obsessed that you didn't even know you were dying... O.o;; That's very disturbing.

Well...I can't say much...

Video games, to me, have always had a drug-like consistency. If I'm bummed, or just want to shut the world out for a while, I step into a world where I'm needed, where I can do the things I've never done, where reality is non-existent. I'll say it plainly, video games ARE my drugs. They keep me sane, and in one piece. And I'll probably never let them go...

im sorry if I finid it terribly amusing.

Nah, its sad whenever someone dies. Has anyone seen those Darwin Wards given to dead people who died in....amusingor stupid ways? Like a guy dided by his own flactuants?

How tragic. I never thought of gaming as a suicide alternative method.

I've heard of stories like these and they're very frightening. That's why I try to give myself a time limit for each gaming session. When it gets close to being the 3rd hour (and occasionly that hour comes) I say "Okay, I'm stopping right now" because I think of these things and I think about how I don't want such a tragic end.

I really think going off to college helped wean me off of video gaming (I refused to have a SNES--too big of a distraction). Now, I've found other interests such as doll collecting (unfortunately, surfing the web is also included!) I still play games but I don't think it's as much as I used to.

I really like playing video/computer games; sometimes I get really engaged and play up to 2 hours but I pray I never get addicted to the point where I feel I can't get off on my own will. I'm glad God kept watch over me and didn't allow anything to happen. This is really scary!

(chuckles) 2 hours, your limit, Golriff(cool nickname alert!)? Wish I had your self-control...I'm a 6PM-6AM nonstop kinda gamer...

I wish I could say I don't know how this could ever happen...

I've had to be careful lately... for a while there I was addicted to Neverwinter Nights. Luckily that game has an ending. I'm not sure what it is that's so incredibly addictive about it, but I had to tear myself away from it just to get some work done, get some sleep, eat dinner.... It got kinda' scary.

It was fun, but overdoing ANYTHING is not good.

My goodness; I'm amazed that the fellow was even able to stand up after sitting for that long! I usually can't go much longer than about 2-3 hours at a time without standing up to at least stretch my legs, or else they start to get stiff and sore.

I wonder if his blood pooled in his body, and that's why he died...

Shooraijin! Any input, Doc?

I play games as long as I feel like. 5 mins to 5 hrs. But the call of the stomach will always prevail.

I bet we'll be hearing reports and articles about how bad computer games are for ppl now (not like we weren't before, but this time even more!)

i think everybody is blowing this a bit out of proportion.... i mean this is one idiot that died from gaming... its not like its an epidemic and hundreds are droping dead form entertainment... there are always some people that are stupid and find odd ways to kill themselves... to me its not a big deal.

Regardless of why this man felt the need to do what he did, it's still really sad. I hardly think the rest of the gamer population is in danger of dieing from their hobby, though. Common sense and a grip on reality really needs to be used.

Thats true. Its still scary though 0_0

Like zilch, I tend to resort to gaming, but also computers, TV, gaming, or sometimes reading a good book when I want to "escape" from reality. When you become a character, you lose sight of your own life, which often feels like a good thing. The biggest problem with that idea for me is that I usually get most stressed when there is work to be done and goofing off to get my mind away from it doesnt help at all with that

A total of ten minutes I was otuside I bleive, for two weeks, I was on my couch and Final Fantasy 8 infront of me, I slept ate and played ff8 for two full weeks almost, very sad, but that was two or three years ago, I've never been into video games as much since. I hope none of you ever get to that point.
