I was wondering if there were any deaf people hangin' 'round these forums.

I've been in ASL for a couple years, and don't really have any connection to the Deaf Community . . . though I do "babysit" a girl . . . who's . . . deaf.

............................done now.

Anybody?? Anybody?? Any ideas on how to be connected?? . . . other than mags and net. :shady: doesn't count, really; the fun of signing ain't present.

Love to chat with ya!

HoS,

Nice to meet you. Sorry, but my sign language is limited to "hi" *waves hand in air* and "bye" *waves hand in air*, or and "I have a question" *waves hand in air*

Unfortunately the only real signs I know are profane language. I never use them, but BS, sure is funny.

Srange how those are always the things that stick......

I used to know the whole ASL alphabet...about five years ago. Since it was never reinforced, I forgot most of it. I used to know the signs for a few other things too, but I forgot them as well. -_-;

Hey, I took a year of sign language, which I LOVED. Me and my dad can both sign and we're always doing it in front of people. . . especially when we're angry. ;) I'm a little confused as to what the question is though. I don't know of any deaf memebers, but that doesn't mean that they're not out there.

I know a few signs... not enough to converse but whatever I don't know I spell 'cause I do know the whole alphabet. The best is signing to your friends in class, say after a test while you have to be quiet.

Woah, people actually responded . . . that's awesome!!

I think everyone should know at least a little, because now that the Deaf are being more accepted nowadays, you know, we're gonna have to understand SOMEthing . . .

That, and it's fun. And you can sign across the (insert sport field/court here) to someone else watching the game :) . . . beats shouting. ::shrugs::

I have an acquaintance who's deaf, and work with him now and then. He's pretty good at lipreading, but it would be nice to learn ASL.

I'm not aware of any deaf members either, however ... but we do have a lot of lurkers and some of them out there might be.

I have a couple friends who work around in town, and there was a deaf lady who'd come and help out my ASL class a few times a week. Since she goes to the store and library and etc., word's getting around town that there are hearing people who sign, so more are coming in.

In fact, I ran into a deaf lady when trying to find out the time a football game started. :wow!: I felt kinda stupid, though, cuz I'd just started the class and only knew a few signs . . . . . . . . . . . -_-

If there's a college or some school around you that has a class, I definately suggest going in and taking a course or something, just so you know the basics . . . or something like that. ::shrugs:: ;)

I've mimed a few songs before in sign language for church services and what not. Had a lot of fun doing it, but I don't understand nearly enough to talk to another person with it.

Hiya. My avatar is Ed from Cowboy Bebop, yeah signing in class is great expecially when people who don't know signs try to figure out what yer doing or put in the few made up signs they do know.
