Hey artists!

Since I don't have a way to reach you through the art corner anymore, listen up, we've got an assignment!

Rev. Doc has asked for some flyers to be able to distribute at a con at the end of the month. Since we don't have any made up, I am asking anyone interested to help out with some. If we get enough entries, we'll either have a vote or let the art contest judges vote on them.

Here are the rules/specifications:
1. All artwork must be a Photoshop 6.0 compatible format or a Microsoft Word XP compatible format.
2. No design is to use copyrighted anime, manga or video game characters in its design. Only original artwork or the approved CAA designs (see Inkhana about getting a copy of her mech picture) may be used. Any artwork using copyrighted images will be immediately disqualified.
3. All artwork must fit in the standard 8.5 by 11 inch paper size
4. All artwork must contain the following information:
Christian Anime Alliance, impacting the anime world for Jesus Christ, and the url http://www.christiananime.net (or, if you so choose, http://www.christiananime.com) Any verses or additional information can be added, but these must be there.
The deadline is May 11

Alright, go at it! If you have any questions PM me. Like the art contest, I'd like to keep this thread mostly images/entries.

This is a great idea! You mods could put the best designs onto the stuff in the shop, too! In fact we I think we should leave em all up somewhere on the site so that people can make printouts for... well wherever it can be advertised! I mean, the more exposure the better, right? (I hope this 'new' server is ready for a jillion more members, Straylight  ) What is the preferred DPI for entries? Is there a minimum DPI requirement? It would be a lot easier for me to make one on this piece-o-crap computer if I was able to keep it under 200DPI. Should we make these pics with expensive ink cartridges in mind or just go as heavy on the black and colors as we want? lol

Animazement from what I remember

I would say try to design with Xerox copiers in mind--because if I know cheap advertising, I'm pretty sure that's the #1 way we will be printing these things.

Yes, I am on staff with Animazement In Durham, NC. Convention date is May 28-30. We always have a table set up in artists alley just for clubs, websites, etc. to put advertising flyers on. Everyone who is going to a convention make sure to email the staff and find out if they do the same. If so you can get a reem of paper at Wal Mart or Office Depot for less than $5.00 and could more than likely find someone or someplace with a copy machine to do some printing for you. I think it would be well worth the investment. But this will definately be great advertising for this site. Just remember what you produce will be representing this site and the Lord's work here.

Wow, most impresive glitch. I can already see that there are going to be some great entries with this. :thumb:

But lets make sure our winner is well rewarded. Since I am responsible for twisting Ashley's arm in getting this going...I will throw in a copy of my current favorite DVD, Azumanga Daioh Volume 1 to the grand prize winner.

This is JediSonic's entry (which had to be re-encoded for some weird reason, apparently the attachment system didn't like the GIMP generated jpeg)

Yeah thats mine  Huge thanks to straylight for going through failed file transfers, several pms and lots of conversions to get this image up for me!
I dunno what GIMP's problem is but I couldnt get the image to upload-- dj had to convert it for me.

I'm not sure if the entry would be disqualified for using other people's original artwork or not, and the plan was for me to offer to change it, but the only way I can do that now is to have straylight (or someone) re-convert the image for me and re-post it, or host it on my web-server. : \

Again, thanks dj/sl!

Nope, in this case you aren't. Ink's mech was designed to be used for CAA advertising, so you're fine! Nice work!

this sounds like a lot of fun, i think i might want to participate in it also.

I've decided to do 2 entries, both completely different.
One will use Ink's mech, and the other will be a completely original entry which i've already started and am about 50% done with ^_^

just to let you know, untill May 11th, i'll be posting updates on my progress, and the first one will be pretty much everyone's first impression of my work.

If the drawing itself doesn't make the cut, i'll abandon my side project with the original character.

Ever since i saw inkhana's mech i've been inspired to do something similar.

P.S. i'm worried a bit that somebody might think that i'm trying to replace the original mascott, but to clear my intentions, i don't want that at all. I just want to see if i can help by adding my own talent into this project. ^_^ I really think it's awesome that people are actually finding ways to minister through a common interest such as anime, something i never thought would happen, but it (along with many other influences) in fact brought me closer in my church, as my friend glitch1501 encouraged me to watch it with him instead of by myself like i always had before. It's really great when people come together in a common interest.

Here is my first draft, I am not quite sure what clothes she will wear, not sure whether or not to go with a skirt or some other form. Please tell me if you like this or not, if not, as i said, i'll abandon the project. Thanks. :)

Y'know I feel pretty stupid, digging my own grave in this matter, but for the sake of honesty...

You did notice there are pics by Gypsy, Kovyn Alander, Ruroken, Chapel, Pepper Kittie, and other work by inkhana thrown in there too, right? Do I need to get them to sign any dotted lines for my entry to work?

Looks good. I'd like to see a finished product on this one.

Just remember, as these for the most part may be copied on a standard copier problems may arise if they are too dark or too light. Have to find that happy medium.

Actually no I didn't. They are probably too light to be seen clearly on a Xerox copy, actually. Working with dark backgrounds can be really difficult, but it IS a nice piece of work. As for getting their permission, you should always at least ask.

Meh, good point..

this whole xeroxing thing gets more depressing all the time -_-

If nothing else I can make the pic into a good wallpaper

EDIT: I've sent PMs to all of my image donors.. if they have a problem with the way I used their artwork, I'll promptly remove it from what you should consider the most up-to-date version: http://www.geocities.com/codeiscool/CAAPOSTER.jpg

I do my own manga comics. One of them is called "Rin". And the other is called "Stick Men-ga!". I don't use the computer though. :comp: I only use printer paper. If you want to know how to make them I'll have to show you later.
