yesterday i went to this pub/resturant that was all english food it was er hem..... d*** good.my parents took me there becuz afterwards we were goin to a romeo and juliet play performed some people from britain at rice university(which i with a full stomach slept through lol)the play started like at 9 and ended like at eleven but the food at the resturant (called the red lion) WAS GOOOOOOOOOOD i had a scotch egg with a side of fries (chips darn confusing brits lol) i cleared my plate and started beggin famly members for more food he he i got a hunk of a meat pie (whatever there called) from my sis and some pastry thng from my bro and some fish and more chips from my dad i ate them like a brit vinegar an salt yummm (i stil say fries with white gravy r beter)we almost got away with a free meal there comp crashed and the manager said go ahead and leave but my dad feeling wrong about it decide he'll give them the credit card # as long as they promised to throw it away afterwards which hopefully they will or we know who to turn to if we get any big bills on our card well ahyhow any other good food places in houston any of u guys know about tell me (oh yea guy who runs the red lion is from britain) this is mainly for brits in the CAA family tho but if u have some info on places in houston (even if there not british ) go ahead and post away!!

I thought meat pie was a french canadian thing.

You're thinking of a tourtiere CDL, that's a type of meat pie. There are others (e.g. scotch pie, steak & kidney pie, etc) that are British. I used to work in a Scottish-owned pub & restaurant back in my home time when I was in high school so is this pretty familiar stuff. And come to think of it, British-style pubs are fairly common where I live anyways.

Can someone tell me... what a crumpit is? Crumpet? Crimpit??!

I've seen crumpets where I work; they're basically like spongy-looking English muffins. If memory serves me correctly, that is. ^_^;

Yeah, they're sort of like muffins but the texture is totally different.. very tasty anyway, good for breakfast.

We do have mince meat and veg pies, they're quite tasty, not sure whether its a purely British thing though. Pie is good anyway. >_>

A thing of beauty. Or at least a salted, smoked fish (usually herring, but I've seen mackerel sold this way too). I love the stuff, but rarely have them these days as a matter of courtesy to the people I live with. The smell these things give off is unbelievable.

I must say though that the best meal I ever had was a Chicken Tika Masala. Yum yummm, indian take-away...

You Brits have great food. But there is one thing that you'll only find here in the south... Biscuits and Gravy!!! I LOVE my biscuits and gravy!
