OK folks, I'm back with another question (Only 1 for now...wow...):

It pertains to fansubs and scnslations again. No, I am not trying to change stance. My problem now is having owned and still being in possession of some fansubs although I have delteted all my scanslations and gotten rid of some of my fansubs, should I buy the legal version because I downloaded it in the past, even if I don't have it in my possession any more?

If you just wanted to, I guess...if you got rid of the original copy then there's no reason to feel guilty about it.

What's a fansub and scanslation?

Note to Ashley: we have no entry for scanlation in the terms dictionary.

Anyway, fansubs/scanlations are fan translations of anime (fansub) and manga (scanlation). This way, anime/manga fans in other countries have an op to enjoy works they otherwise would have no access to.

If you feel that you want to support the artists that brought it to you, I guess so. Just pray about it, and follow your conscience.

But I already watched them and read them...

It certainly wouldn't hurt to invest in what you have already seen. Not to mention that it will increase the size of your anime collection which is a plus. :thumb: But, it's entirely up to you and your personal convictions. If you feel convicted about it, go for it. It's a lot better going through life with a clear conscience than to have to constantly worry about whether or not you really made the right decision or not.

But of i did do it, wouldn't i go through life worrying if i have been a good steward of God's money, since everything and everyone really belongs to Him?

This type of question is why God gave us the gift of prayer. :thumb:
In this case, I really don't think there is a 'wrong' choice. It's entirely up to you and your personal convitions.

wiggins - If you feel the anime is worth adding to your collection - do you wish to watch it again - then I suggest puchasing it. If not, do not get it.

I do not know about over in London, but here there are stores where you can trade in previously watched DVDs for store credit. If you can do that, buy the anime, watch it once or twice, then trade it in toward something new and shiney! *~_~*

It all boils down to want you feel will clear your conscience. Personally, I have only one series of scanlations that I have that I will buy as soon as it is out. I think you can tell of which one I am talking about by my avatar and sig. The rest are ones that I didn't really like.

Scanlations to me are like browsing a book. Are you supposed to buy the book just because you read it from a library or at a store? I hope not, or many of us would be in debt.

Anyone in the artistic bizz should understand that not everyone is going to spend money after seeing their works. It is the good artist/writer that makes them want to buy it for themselves.
