How many left-handers?

I happen to be one of those rare 1 in 8 people who are left-handed. So, I was wondering how many other lefties are on CAA?

I'm right-handed. And there was no knuckle-beating-with-a-ruler involved. XD

I'm right-handed myself, but my father and one of his uncles are left handed. Though really my dad has developed a form of ambidexterity, as he golfs right-handed, can write that way with minimal difference in handwriting appearance.

that went out a loooong time ago, Fu. It was once believed that being left-handed was a sign of witchcraft. (I think it was a misinterpretation of that "right hand not knowing what the left hand was doing" verse.) I don't know why it was stopped but I'm glad it was.

They... Actually came up with that!? If you've seen some of the threads I've made I'm an expert at taking things out of context and even I can't get that!!! If that weren't so sad and pitiful I'd give it an X and a D.

There have been plenty of superstitions like that over the years. Like, knitting/crocheting was men's work because it was thought to be too complicated for women to grasp. Bathing was once considered unhealthy.

I didn't know the left hand thing had Scriptural 'back up' though.

You are right on the misconception that even the Church held for a looong time about left handed people. Even the word sinister comes from the word in Latin sinastra which means left handed!
I do not have any clue on why the matter of hand dominance became an issue of death or life during the Middle Ages but, sadly, it was.

bathing was unhealthy? Maybe there were some stuck-up types who didn't like the idea of public nudity, I guess. (Considering people didn't have bathtubs in those days, which was why bathing was common. It's kinda like what we see in Japan with the public bathhouses.)

Long time ago? I don't think so- my aunt had her hand beated with a ruler when she was in grade school because she was left handed. The teacher had all the left-handers up front in the class, and used a ruler- breaking my aunt's finger at one point. It wasn't until she learned my aunt's dad was a cop that she stopped doing it. And that was in the.... early 60's.

Righty myself, though.

EDIT: THe bathing thing was really common. People thought not bathing mortified the flesh, and kept you healthy (since they thought water spread disease, and bathhouses encouraged immorality). Which is why people laughed when the person who developed lysol insisted that the doctors working under him use it between patients- and subsequently shamed him, and drove him out of the scientific community. I'm left-handed. Some of my older relatives (aunties, uncles, grandparents) started off left-handed but were viciously canned on the left knuckles until they changed to be right-handed. The belief (which was rife in the Church) was that being left-handed was evil because on the Day of Judgment the sheep went to the right (to live with God/Jesus/the Holy Spirit) and the goats went to the left (to be separated from Him).

I'm actually ambidextrous. But, originally lefty. I had to learn to use my right hand when I injured my left. I usually use my right when I write, and my left hand for everything.

I'm left-handed, but I was forced to learn to write with my right hand when I was in nursery school. This technically makes me mixed-handed now.

Right-handed all the way, but sometimes I use my left hand to do things, like when I'm cleaning or picking things up. In those cases, I grab with my left hand and transfer it to my right.

Right-handed, but my mother is left handed. My sister claims to be ambidextrous, but I'm quite skeptical.

I am left-handed!

Which, although being atypical, is annoying because I can't use notebooks straight or draw left-to-right, or use scizzors right-side-up.

I'm the only person in my entire family who is left-handed.

Also... Sephiroth is left-handed~ *finds this awesome*

I'm mostly right-handed. The only thing I can't do with my right is snap my fingers. I have to use my left hand for that. XD

I don't know if they're still around, but I remember they used to sell left-handed notebooks. You can also get those notebooks with the binding on top.

I just start from the back cover, like a manga volume.

I write and draw with my right hand because that is the one that my mom taught me with, but around age 10 my mom noticed that I did so much stuff with my left hand that she started to susspect that she taught me wrong and that might be why my hand-writing is so bad. (Try as I might though, I can't write with my left hand.)

A lady in my chuch who is probably in her mid 40's had her hands beaten in grade school because she was left handed so she learned to write with her right. I can't remember if she's ever switched back.
