The capsule containing miner Florencio Avalos broke the surface at 12:10 a.m. local time as a crowd cheered. He climbed out of the rescue capsule and was immediately embraced by rescue workers and others, as bystanders cheered and clapped.

The capsule has been sent down and they are now putting another miner in and will start slowly pull him out.

They aren't all out yet- this guy is just the first.

In any case, I JUST finished reading this on yahoo. I'll be eagerly awaiting news on the rest of the miners, and am praying for their safety as they escape!

Oh, I know, but I would definitely qualify pulling them out one by one a rescue. XD

3rd miner has made it. I have to say that this is surreal in watching the Chilean miners emerge from 2000 feet in the depths of the earth and, thank God, they are all right so far.

The miners and their families never gave up hope and had trust in God that they would make it. This shows you proof that trusting God and he will answer you.

Wow. You know, up until hearing it on the radio as my roommate and I were going to the church we work at on Friday mornings last week, I hadn't heard a thing on this story (We're so sheltered to the news on campus)

I'm glad to hear the miners are starting to be pulled out, and are in good condition. :)

My goodness, how many weeks/months it been since they were trapped? I am honestly surprised they have stayed sane and healthy. My hat is off to the rescue team!

69 days. They now have 17 miners out and they feel that they should have them all by the end of the day.

It must have been a very joyous day for their families... I'm impressed that they completed the rescue with everyone intact.

The company I work for has an office in Chile, and had two people from there help out with the rescue effort. We watched the televised rescue on the big screen at work.

I saw them pull the first guy out on live TV. Pretty amazing moment. I'm really glad to hear that they all made it out-- that capsule thingy looked pretty precarious!
